Kevin, I've got a 20' tilt bed steel 10K equipment trailer. 4' 16' tilt, I've hauled cars, trucks, skidder, & tractors no problem. I would really encourage the tilt bed option over ramps, pull the lever & load. I hauled a GMC Envoy to Fort Wayne from here no issues. As Mike said, stake pockets & rub rails are a must. I use the crap outta mine. Tim's set up is really slick too.

Is the tilt beds hydraulic or mechanical?

Takes weight on the back to make it tilt...but most of them do have a hydraulic damper to make the drop controllable...you can get a power tilt option though too...

You should be good to go on a standard 20’ equipment trailer, then. I would imagine a Dakota would also fit on the narrower model if you chose to go that route

Rub rails and a couple 1/2” D rings welded to the frame inside each wheel well

My tilt is hydraulic. Pull the lever it tips up automatically, gravity down with weight. 100lbs. will tip it back down. To load a long wheelbase like my ext cab f250's I have to use planks, the front weight becomes becomes enough to tilt before the rear tires get on the deck.

How cumbersome are those ramps to handle? To raise & lower? Do they catch much wind?

Most of that style trailer have a spring assist in the ramp hinge, they go up pretty easily.

Ramps aren't bad at all. Wind goes right thru them.

They probably have a 10K model too. That was just the first ones I found

Well Finally went and looked at some this morning....Been internet surfing them... Finally found time in the schedule. A trailer company that my buddy recommended just outside of the city... Anyways... yes the ramps are much easier than I figured to put up and down. I was impressed. For the $$'s the difference between 10K and 14K is really insignificant... Looking at a Load Trail and a Delco. I think for the $$'s the Delco is where I'll probably go Rub rails, greaseable pivot for the axle, and adjustable stand offs for the load ramps are standard on it vs. not on the Load Trail. All else pretty much the same, made just down the street from each other, so theres that. Wiring looks pretty much the same. Both have breakaway breaks... I'm still trying to figure out in my mind if I can get the 20' backed up into my driveway or if I'll need to settle for a 18'. My 14' isn't too bad, kinda of tight but do able...

Question though, since I'm new to this big of trailer. The ball portion didn't seem to have the ability to be locked in the down position. Like my 14' has the little flippy ball engagement, then I can put a padlock through it to look the trailer to the truck. Or was I missing something. The spring mechanism was pretty strong, but didn't see anyway to lock it on the ball.
