Ran out of my rubber roofing squares for my stacks, so decided to give another material a shot. Took 4 empty bags from my chicken feed, cut the top and bottom flush and cut one side to make a flat sheet. Overlapped the sheets on a top pallet, with a lot of overlap between the sheets and shingled down angle toward the fence. Stapled down along tops and sides pretty well so it wouldn't flap in the wind. Pretty tough material and will be fun to see how long it holds up. I'm guessing the Sun will break is down and wind will eventually lead to tears, but only took a few minutes to try. Cheers!
That looks like a pretty good idea. I have a lot of those bags and I usually wind up just burning them or throwing them out - I'll have to try your idea.
Sounds good - we can compare how long they last. I think the key is getting them stapled tight so the wind can't flap the edges - I'm sure it would rip from the staples in no time if the wind could move it. Free, so why no try! Oh, they are also worth keeping as sheets to lay down to catch oil, etc. Cheers!
I use them when I run out of tarps too. I just cut the bottom string and up the side. I just use uglies to hold them down.
Do you have single rows? The top of my stacks are uneven enough that if I didn't add a pallet to the top, the rubber roofing or these bags end up forming pools of water that inevitable runs into the stack - I've started placing a pallet on the top to keep level and angle to let water run off one side - had made a great difference. Cheers!
No I stack in rows of three or four. I usually use the bags for if a tarp isn't long enough. The pallet idea is a good one. I usually try to stack one end higher and as flat as possible at the top.
