I remember you telling me back when i first posted about it. I first used a 5/16 bolt, but it bent a bit too easy and broke after i bent it back a few times (im rough on my tools) went to a 3/8". Dunno if a point (like i did) or side ground would make it "stick" better in a log. Sometimes the point wont stay even if i swing full force. I repurposed the head into a wedge. See Thread Fiskars wedge
Only tried it on a few smaller rounds. It works well with a small 4lb. sledge. I could see me splitting like this in old age vs. swinging an axe. The only problem is the metal is hardened (could chip easily and i chamfered it to lessen this) and the edges are not parallel so it will tilt after a few whacks. If i had a big grinder id grind the top to make them even. A couple members had suggested using the old handle for a pickeroon. If you end up making one, post the pics. Id love to see it.

To ANYBODY that has had or does have any back trouble a pi maroon is worth every cent. Just picked up a husky Sappie. The head is great but the handle is junk. Waiting on it to break so my boy ca rahandle it for me. I have no back left so it helps a bunch. Anybody ever build something like a gorilla bak? I’m thinking we will be building one for bothe splitters. I’m disabled and my help is dad72 and my cousin 70 lol. We don’t hit it to hard. I love this club!

How do you cut that plastic, with a shear, knife, or some kind of saw?

You must be really strong is all I can say. Those rounds don't look small.

I have one I like. I can't find a link to where I bought it, it was not too costly, I think it was made by a small shop, it wasn't a big manufacturer. It has a small axe head on the other side of the pick part, axe is maybe 1.5" tall.

Backsavers I've posted elsewhere, but they definitely fit here.

Make sure you use 2 at a time. I have one and pulled a back muscle bad, moving some heavy half rounds to the other splitter.

The channel with the saw videos is T. Jeff Veal, which is me. Sorry for the confusion. This was a thread I started, have you seen the beginning? Several good ideas have been posted on here. Glad to have you here. Subscribe to my channel if you want. I post a video occasionally.

Yeah I built something similar. Used the winch on my atv. No sense letting a machine go to waste while I break my back.
Instead of that screw in Gorilla thing I use “Rafting Dogs”. Work great. Couple good whacks witha three pounder and your all set. Recommend never getting underneath one just in case it pops loose tho. Not many people would make that mistake once, certainly not twice. LOL
Have a separate car battery wired in to the winch instead of killing the little atv battery. Winch comes with a wirelessremote which is nice. Only con is the remote turns off between rounds. Takes about 5 seconds of button pushing to fire it back up. Oh the agony!!

One last hint. Build the pipe much stronger than you think it needs to be ;) mines scabbed together because I didn’t :)

My design chop saw for 10" and smaller rounds. Especially handy if you have alot of tops to process.
