There's two screws on each side.... they hold the brackets that holds the firebrick up. There is one of those on each side that held up a flame shield that was just below the heat tubes....it burned through a few years ago.

I'll keep looking for a way into the baffles.

He might be right, the old/early quest had no cleanouts.Time for the rubber mallet and leaf blower or high pressure air.

It this something that has occured relatively quickly? Was it always about 5 minutes, or was it less at one point.
I have a whit a2t, with added on igniter. At one point it was taking more tine than usual. Ended up being the igniter. It died completely. New igniter and it lit much faster.
Just one additional thing to look at.
Also, makes sure you vacuum out the tube that has the igniter. (In case it is not obvious).

Thanks Mike, just replaced it. 2nd one in four years. The lighter won't screw in more than two turns, the first one was the same. It gets tight and I don't like to force things. Wonder if a tap would clean the threads..... would it light quicker.....

Add some anti seize to the threads. X2 perhaps ash insulating the ignitor? Some here hook the ignitor up to the ac wire plug it in and test how fast it lights and how much the ignitor actually gets hot

Air goes through the burn pot ,up through the heat exchanger were it gets split into two halves, one goes right and one goes left then both sides go down behind the firebox join together and head to the combustion blower and from there out the venting.

Interesting in the shape of a oval race track. Most welders would have trouble with that.

What are the 2 large openings beside the aperture for the fire pot ??

Where do these lead to ???

Do those large openings connect to the same area below the fire pot??

It would seem that there should be covers over those holes

If the two openings are connected to the passage that's directly under the pot they can't be left open as the incoming air must pass up through the grate

Deck clean ports... open during the photo. Allows ash to be swept into ash bin below. Closed during operation.

Here is a piccy of the pot area and shows the "Ash slide plate"

Does your stove have the slide plate ???

If not then get two pieces of sheet metal and cover the openings on either side of the grate area.

The entire volume of air coming into the firebox MUST go up through the grate.

Does the ash pan have a seal on it when it is closed ??
