Last year I lost several dozen oak seedlings to squirrels. I’m trying again this year in protected beds, but in the future I’ll stick to transplanting 1 or 2 year old established seedlings.
Red oaks aren't too bad. White oak has a central tap root that won't survive being cut and it is loooooong. That tap root doesn't like reaching the bottom of a pot either. Neither like being in pots over-wintered without being heeled in and a number of animals will eat the young shoots and/or pull the young plant up if there's anything left of the acorn. Then of course deer will eat any shoot that is this year's growth.
I've had some luck in the past (it's been a long time ago) with red oak but never tried replanting white oaks so can't say about those. I am sure we could find some saplings for you.
We had a willow oak acorn donated to one of our front flower beds. Didn’t really notice it among the other tall plantings til it was about 2’ tall… tried to get it all… transplanted to middle of front yard. Died a few weeks later. Stoopid taproot.
Guess that’s a band? Dude on the left is wearing a Maiden shirt so we know he has good taste. Guy on the right likes Star Wars, so he alright.
