I sell firewood so time is money for me. I know through much experience, the bigger wood just takes longer to turn into splits - at least in a situation where the logs are already on the ground, and it’s not even close

Well i tend to disagree, cut a lot of wood in over 40 years, if its too big to handle i suppose but there is a lot of wood in those huge pieces and splits quickly for me

I'd have to pass on that one too. I just dont have enough bar, or horsepower to get through it.

If I did though, I'd have to call in my secret weapon to split them to a manageable size. Midwinter
    Shes an oak splitting machine!

Who got the big trunk? If you had room, it could be cut with the 18" bar, slow, sure but doable. Cut around as much as possible, use wedge to split off chunks, then cut center, or noodle. Sure wish we were closer with the 'Bota. No problem.

We'd get it done, one Bronco load and RAV4 load at a time. You might lose a wife though.

Big logs like that scream for an Alaskan mill to glide over their behind. :hair:
Great score, whatever way you cut it!

Where the grain is straight, yes it splits easy. What about the crotches and knots in large wood? Takes forever to get some of them to bust. For me personally, roughly 12" to around 20" in diameter is the sweet spot. Splitting that sized wood with my TW6, I can keep 2 guys very busy. When we deal with the big stuff, it's more like guys standing around rehandling huge splits.

Make some lumber, the oak is better firewood.

Yeah, I've made some pretty big piles of splits from big ones. You can spend a lot of time (trying to) moving them around though, the trick is not to.
You usually don't find those in the base/trunk of the tree.
How many trunks have you tried splitting ?

A 30” black walnut is valuable unless it’s full of metal. Should find a mill for that.
