The one tire that required so much weight I wonder if you can get a replacement if you were to tell them its way far off! You probably have 7"s of weight around that one rim!
Sounds like I'm having trouble with one tire. Now that the highways are bare, thanks to the warm weather, I can actually hear a flopping or whapping noise. I first heard it around 50 mph; now that I am listening for it, it starts audible at 30-35mph. I called treadwright for warranty on friday, when I first heard the noise, but "my call may be recorded" and then "your call is important to us" and then "please leave a message". Hope I can get this matter/tire resolved.
Naw, it isn't the tire with all the weight-just checked. And that is if my tired damaged old hearing can still tell where the noise is coming from?
And today brings a whole new aspect on the treadwright saga! I thought I had picked up a stud from a snowmoblile in one of the brand new retreads and left the truck at a local shop to have the "leaky tire" fixed while I was working today. Picked up the truck and the fella said that where the tread is bonded onto the sidewall (of the leaky tire), there are soft spots and air leaks where one can actually press a finger into the side and feel the mushy bond. I suspect that there were some air pockets there. At any rate, I spoke with the factory and started a warranty claim for that specific tire. By the way, it is the one with all the weights...6.5 oz on the inside and 6.5 oz on the outside...about 11" of lead on each side of the tire! Being that the tread is soft and spongy at the point of bonding to the sidewall, I'm thinking that this might also be the tire that is making the "flopping" or "wapping" sound. The next step is to wait for treadwright to contact me on what action they will take for resolving this issue. Stay tuned for a first hand review of their warranty procedure! First pic is of the weights, second is of faulty area. Spongy area is near the lugs of tread. Third pic- begining with this lug, the next 3-4 are spongy/hollow.
Hate you had this problem. I have read of quite a few folks that have no issue. I would buy a set if they made rereads in my size.
Treadwright called and informed me they will warranty the tire and a replacement will be shipped out today. They even asked what brand sidewall the tire was. It's nice to know that the customer service/warranty department acted quickly. Good thing because the tire leaks air so fast, it goes flat overnight. Won't be using the truck till the tire shows up.
I work for a trucking company and the only time our units have virgin tires is on the steers or when they brand new. With recaps have to watch which casings are used. And always found they will either lose the cap right away or last until the tread wears out. I'm not aware of anyone that retreads automotive tires but would definitely buy them if they did around here
Aremedillo this hear is about a company that recaps truck tires? Mos loggers I deal with run recaps on drivers and new on the steers. They always look good to me and I rarely see any of them with tires that blew apart. On the trailers more often I see it but they check the air less frequently on those and run those way way down as well.
Yah, we've had very good luck with recaps on trucks and trailers, rarely have a failure with them. I know here its illegal to run recaps on the steers.
Well, the tire came in today and had it put on right away. Unfortunately, it is not the one that is making the flapping/wapping sound! Does anyone (besides me) think that this will lead to a premature failure of the tire? It gets louder as the speed increases and although there is no shaking (like an unbalanced tire would) I'm concerned that it will "let go" some time. WAP wap wap wap wap wap, here comes Yooperdave, wap wap wap wap there goes yooperdave. What should I look for on the suspect tire? Oh yeah, even though Treadwright asked what sidewalls I had on the original four, I ended up a with another brand sidewall. 3 Michelins and 1 Yokohamma now. So what.
Yes, I've mentioned it twice to them. I was hopping that the tire that was replaced was the one, but nope-try again. I fired them a message tonight and if I get of work early enough, will call tomorrow.
Look for some type of warping on the inner edge (back side, towards fender). Every tire I have had that did the "Wap" sound, had some type of uneven wear on the inner edge. Due to not being balanced properly, or a misalignment.
I have one thats worn out on the back of the saturn. I need two new tires for it. But it wap wap wap s and there is bald spot then tread and then bald spot. Again they need to be replaced and its a beater commuter car so I dont care. I got tires about 50% on front that will go to the back when I her 2 new ones.
Checked for the cupping briefly this morning with none apparent. I'll have to give it a closer inspection, during the daylight, as soon as I can. The tires have about 200 on 'em now, which is why I don't think there is or will be able to find any cupping. Treadwright did not answer my e-mail-yet.
