I've had one for a few years, it does a great job, but is not very fast.
I got in the practice of having multiple chains and just swapping them when they got dull, then sharpening them all at home.
I wore out the guides, and have new ones I never installed .
instead I bought the Pferd chain sharpener, I like it better in many ways, it takes down the raker and sharpens the tooth in one motion, the handle reinforces the correct angle, and I can hit every tooth with a couple strokes in a minute or so, usually every other tank of gas.
The timberline is good for bringing back a rocked chain, but slow in the field

If you only dull your chain (rather than grinding a rock) it removes so little of the tooth that you'll only need to deal with the "raker's" now & then.

I'll second this, nearly identical experiences.

On that note, I should post mine to the classifieds, need to check the rules on that. I even bought the additional angle guides and a spare cutter in case they went out of business, and now it sits.

I have never seen the timberline in work in person sounds like its a good tool but kinda slow. Not trying to derail the thread but does the pferd only work on stihl chains or will it work on the oregon and carlton chains too? I ask this because i have the husqvarna roller file guides and they work awsome on oregon chains but i dont like the results on the stihl chains. I have been hand filing my stihl chains with good but not great results. I ask about the pferd cause lots of other folks seem to love it, and stihl chain seems to hold an edge a bit better than oregon.

Pferd works on every brand, check the listing on the site you buy from for your size

I finally had time to use my Timberline today. Took a few minutes to get the hang of it, but damm did it cut good! Far better than I could ever get it by hand.
