I saw one run away once, was hanging from a crane. What a sound!

If I had money and space I'd just love to have an Oliver with a Detroit.

If you had an Oliver with a Detroit, you could make space, yes?

I bet that was something else! Did it self-destruct or was somebody able to get to the air shutoff (if it had one)? Shutting off the air intake or discharging a CO2 fire extingusisher into them are the only ways I've seen them stopped, unless they finally stopped themselves by slinging parts.

Extinguisher was on hand but it happened fast. It was at a junkyard and was just yanked from a wrecked truck. From jumper cables to OH ____!!
    Was pretty short.

Actually talk about secret purchase! A guy wanted a garden tractor and wanted a more expensive one than the wife would sign off on. They bought the one she wanted. Next day he changed it to the one he wanted, paid the difference and ordered the stickers for the one she wanted. See everyone's happy.

My folks had a house built and it was one of the first in the development.(Back in the early 1980s) It was awesome for 6 year old me. I didn’t know it at the time, but many Detroit powered units were running around. Of course, they had that distinctive sound. Drott wheel loaders were pretty common. During one of the first winters, the town used a bucket loader with a plow powered by a Detroit. The whole neighborhood heard that go by at 3AM.

I was at a customer site when 2 16 cylinder Detroit's on peak load generators were being load tested. You felt it in your bones.

One of our cameras was able to see and hear it start. Yep, it’s Detroit!

My neighbor also stopped by today to chat. He mentioned he had the OK to use it as long as he refills the diesel….I stated I’d be happy to assist. Stay tuned….

Yep, when I was a boy, you could tell when someone around the community was having timber cut... Timber Jacks and Franklins ruled the woods then.
Now the JD's and Tigercats are so quiet you barely hear them 100 yrds away.
The back up beeper and saw head are louder than the skidder driving very close to us.

Would have been a fun experience to share! On the plus side, my neighbor is going to borrow an attachment from his buddy that will allow him to haul that big maple out of the woods. So there’s that!

He has! He let me borrow it a few years ago after our property flooded during a December rain storm. Made moving gravel a lot easier.
