Timber in his growing years

I got nothing on Dex...but here's my yard...

 

Nice yards, nice dogs.

I used to fertilize until 4 years ago. That summer my well went dry. Half my front yard looked like the surface of the moon when they were done drilling the new well.

I'm going to have to pick up some of that TSC broadleaf killer. I hit the stores in the fall and buy hose end weed killer on clearance at the end of the season. That gets me through the next year. I was too late last year and missed the deals.

Otherwise my lawn gets what God and Mother Nature throws at it. Leaves, clippings, etc all get left on the lawn to return to the earth. As long as I keep the weeds under control the grass stays looking pretty good.

Just snapped a pic. I cut it two days ago. Probably the best time to get a picture. Apple blossoms are all in bloom this week.

 

Are you two related? You seem to have a lot in common.

Some of my neighbors like to scun their lawns down to the roots. Brown as soon as the spring rains are done. The gal who owned the house before us used to do that too. She was so possessed by the idea that the grass was getting longer than the nap of her rugs, she'd mow every other day all year...

 

What happend to Timber? Ya should put up a lawn care thread Dex

I'm sure there are others. We do have a lot in common.

 

That picture is the part of the yard that I don't chemically treat. If you have good grass established and keep mowing it high you could probably keep it looking really nice if you went to the low-cost treatment and get good results.

 

Look at the legs on that guy... ... he's gonna be a brute...

 

I had one of those lawn care people call. I think he was a little shocked when i said no i don't want what your selling I don't treat the yard at all. He said i should and i told him look buddy its green isn't it. He was real pushy about it said it would help the curb appeal. I kept telling him that does not matter to me and all my neighbors yards look the same as mine. I just mow kind of high and let nature sort it out. Those are some cute pics of the dog and daughter I think she will have a good friend for a long while.

 

Yeah, my problem seems to be too much grass. I've never even thought about "helping" it either. I know there is a huge market tho for lawn care. And, it's amazing how good lawns like Dex's look after being well cared for. Each to his own. My neice's husband thinks I'm weird riding on a tractor mowing any kind of lawn. Thinks it should just be wild............... OK...

 

Yea his grass looks great but like you said to each his own. I would never judge a man over his lawn. I am not real big on mowing and occasionally my schedule gets thrown out of whack so i may not get a chance to mow for 2 weeks sometimes. I could only imagine if i helped it along.

 

I don't do a lot of judging either, but I "notice" things sometimes. Our next door neighbor's lawn hasn't been mowed once yet. Big yard and plenty of nice fresh greenery. Beautiful home. She's divorced and lives with her son and daughter. When "the son" (HS senior age) ever gets out to mow, the lawn tractor usually ends up in a 1/4 mowed lawn... for a week or more, before more mowing happens, if at all. ... this last winter, I saw Mom hung up on the snow the town plow left. She was shoveling her car out and looked exhausted. Told her to hang on and I went back home and got the Jeep and plowed the end of the drive after I yanked her out. Never saw junior once... he was asleep inside, no school. Now, I think I've skidded hard off the rails on this one...

 

They have a problem in Bangor, and others I'm sure, with some sort of grub that's taken out beautiful lawns. It's pretty obvious too... perfect, definately treated lawns... half dark brown and dead with a defining line between the dead grass and the green. That has got to make a guy's head hurt after putting so much into a lawn.

 

O.K. I'll play, this is my yard. I use all TSC liquids. I built a 10 foot spray boom which covers about 12 feet per pass. I have a 25 gallon tank and pump. I might spray some fertilizer this weekend, if I do I do I will post pics of my set up.
