I know the idea is to keep this non-political. However; this article indicates an attempt to remove all non-compliant wood stoves such as non-EPA stoves. http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/02/24/3321941/epa-wood-stoves-2/ If you feel this belongs in the general tab, please move it. Jason
The law here in OR for a while now has been that you cannot sell any house with a non-EPA or non-OR DEQ approved wood stove. Also you cannot buy any non-EPA wood stove here. All wood boilers are now outright banned here. I already bought an EPA II/WA approved stove and installed it here. Englander NC30. It will likely be EPA III compliant as WA requirements are likely going to be the basis of EPA III. In WA state they have gone one further, and you cannot buy or install a non-WA approved stove (even EPA II stoves are not allowed). All new stoves and fireplaces in most counties there have to have an OAK as well. In many places in Central California, all new wood burning appliances are banned and have been for 30 years now. Like it or not, old stoves are going to be banned. Sadly the laws do not apply to masonry fireplaces here, which are far more common and far more smoky. But they cannot regulate those, and hence they are exempt. My next house will have a masonry fireplace.
Unreal.. when will they stop. I guess when the epa finds a stupe or just pays off a scientific firm to say cutting trees makes them cry. So therefore u cannot cut any more poor trees. Deadwood Will be reserved for the spotted owls and u will freeze to death. Unless ur poor or middle class and apply for a subsidy to make u dependant on the libs for ur daily sustainance. We r stupif for listening to the epa. F them. I beleive if u burn 2 year dry wood let it get hot befor closing door on stove its fine. I have anolder dovre stove and it burns clean. Very lil smoke. they r enviro nazies. Theyhate burning poor twees that u make them cry and bweed. bullcrap
Yah, here in Oregon it is ridiculous and not just wood burning. We have to endure grass burning by the seed companies in the Willamette Valley in summer. Tree nurseries and x-mas tree farms here can burn green wood and trees all they want and smoke everyone out. Slash burning is done by logging companies all over Oregon during the rainy seasons, and they have to by law! We also have forest fires all summer. Any masonry fireplace can smoke all they want. Also seasonally, people can outdoor burn here all they want. Oh, but those OWBs and wood stoves are evil! Ban them!
How are they really going to know if you have a wood burning stove or a fireplace anyway? This is going to make buying a wood burning stove more expensive than they already are. All that other burning going on and they put it to us for having a wood burning stove.
Here in Oregon they get you when you sell a house. No house here can be sold with a stove or boiler on the property that is not state DEQ or EPA approved. You have to sign a doc that you will remove and scrap any non-compliant stove (except antiques that are not in use), and then you have to have a scrapper sign that you scrapped it and send it in to the state. Pellet stoves are exempt though, as are masonry fireplaces.
