Since I sold my bucket truck years ago I sometimes rent something like this: I really dont like climbing dead trees. Looks like it might be an option if your BIL wants to cheap out and not pay a pro. It usually costs me 150 a day with delivery and pick up included. What ever you decide be safe man.
A lot of good advice to consider, I like Deer Meadow Farm take on the situation, but everyone agrees, what ever the final course of action is, safety is paramount. Remember, there have been a couple of posts on this very site of homeowners and tree workers killed in horrible accidents in the last week. We all feel terrible when we hear about a stranger, but we never want it to be one of own.
