Grew up in a little town called Lisco. I see you are from the Thedford area. Do you know any of the Egle clan up there? As far as needing help spending money…I appreciate the kind offer, but Ms. July is convinced that I don’t need any help spending money on tools. I have found over the years that it’s easier to apologize every time something new shows up rather than trying to explain the “need”” for it. Also doesn’t hurt to spend a little on her about the same time. Lol

I know where lisco is and I know the Egle’s well. Jade and I hung together quite a bit before he moved

I know all of his relatives from the Stratton/Palisade/Wauneta area. Good friends with his cousin Michael who is now in Pinedale WY. Hung out with Jade and Jess a few times years ago. Had some very LARGE times with those guys. Good folks. My ex-brother in law is from up in that country as well. From Mullen. Lloyd Harding.

Welcome to the forum. I too am an Elm and Cottonwood burner for firewood. Being in SE Wyoming that what we have here. I do not split Elm or Cottonwood anymore and noodle it all into splits. Too much frustration even with hydraulics. Thanks goodness I already have over 3 years' worth of wood ready to go so all I have to do is what I burn every year and that makes it a lot easier. Like you I have plenty of saws to choose from.

Hey Elm-er Fudd . Welcome to the forum and glad to meet you! Great bunch of folks here. I have just been outside hand splitting some very large, gnarly, fibrous, twisted butt rounds of Doug Fir and yes some of them made me feel like a wuss! There is just enough sponginess to absorb a lot of the force of the maul so I had to resort to wedges, even on some of the quarters or sixths. I am just breaking them down to handling size for the horizontal splitter so that is as far as I am going now. I could have started right out with the splitter and run it vertical but I was not in the mood for the splitter today. Wrong move!
I understand about the Elm and Cottonwood but the best firewood is what is available, close and free! Great to have you aboard and look forward to your posts.

I think those western tv shows must have used a block of balsa wood…
