He’s just waiting to be asked
    By Pastor Mark Jeske

“Why should I bother praying? If God is as omniscient as you Christians say, he should know what I need and just give it. If I have to tell him, then he doesn’t really know everything. If he knows my needs and doesn’t help me, then he’s either powerless or cruel or both.”

Whew. Did you ever hear talk like that? I have. The skeptic who uttered those blasphemies completely missed the point that God’s ultimate desire is to have a relationship with us, not bring heaven on earth. We will experience heaven in heaven. In the meantime, the faith-bond that links us to God is of paramount importance. It is everything.

When God’s children experience hardships, of course he sees. Of course he cares. The one who sent his Son to the cross for us couldn’t love us more. But he usually waits—first, to see if we can handle the problems with the skills and resources he’s already given us, and second, to be asked: “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). The whole point of his answers to our prayers is not merely to reduce our pain but to build up our faith in him.

What do you need from him right now? Say a prayer that acknowledges his awesome love, his unbelievable power, and his steady wisdom. Then ask.

A couple in California had one of the world’s largest roosters. They named him Weirdo and he weighed around 22 lb. He was so mean that he crippled a dog which came too close and he also killed two cats. Is this called, “Poultry in Motion?”

    Impressive attention to detail
    By Pastor Mark Jeske

We all love to hear our names spoken out loud. Every person who works in sales who’s worth a dime knows how important it is to remember people’s names. The more they can remember about their customer’s life, the better the relationship (and probably the greater the sales). You get points for asking about spouse, children, and personal achievements. Remembering a birthday is a home run.

But that knowledge is still pretty superficial. Jesus Christ, your Savior, wants you to know the scale of the passion and depth of the attention that God pays to his children. He makes it his business to know everything about you. Why go to such extreme lengths? Because he cares so much for you. So what’s included in “everything”? “Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:30). Unbelievable! God has both the capacity and the interest to keep that kind of data.

The important conclusion is not that God wastes his divine time on nonessential trivia like hair follicles. What that means is that he sees all of your struggles, hears all of your prayers, feels all of your pain, tracks all of your health issues, senses all your fears, claps for all of your triumphs, grieves with you in every setback, beams a smile on all your acts of generosity, and tracks every minute of your life until you are safe in his arms.

Now that is what I call impressive attention to detail.

God doesn’t wash your mouth with soap
    By Pastor Daron Lindemann

Naughty words. We hear them. We read them. We say them. We write them.

Back when I was a kid, naughty words were followed by a good scolding—as in that dirty mouth being washed out with soap. Ick! The chemicals in soap make it taste like death by poison. It can sure be an effective measure of discipline (it worked on me), but it shouldn’t be the only one.

Soap can’t change your heart. That’s where you hold your beliefs, attitudes, and priorities. That’s the true source of either evil or goodness. Jesus said, “The things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart” (Matthew 15:18).

So God has changed your heart. He’s given you a new identity that isn’t dominated by naughtiness and shameful words, but by divine grace and purity. In Baptism, God washes your heart out with soap and then looks at you, smiles, and says, “How pretty! How pure! How clean!” God praises you!

Replace the shaming names you call yourself like “failure” and “loser” and “dirty” with names that God calls you. Wake up each morning and go to sleep each night living in God’s peace, no matter what anyone else thinks about you.

God praises you even before you perform better because Jesus performed his work of saving you. God praises you even when you still make mistakes because his grace knows your heart and your identity better than you do

Where do I go with my fears?
    By Pastor Mark Jeske

What a blessing digital media is! I can share information instantaneously with my friends and family and coworkers with a few mouse clicks. The gospel of Jesus Christ can be seen and heard in the remotest places of the world, even in countries that make evangelism difficult or impossible. What a curse digital media is! Child pornography flies around the globe and feeds a sick addiction that’s very hard to regulate or control. Violent people out to make a revenge statement know that the internet will spread the story of their deeds far and wide.

Is the world more violent, or are we just more and more aware of how violent the world has always been? Jesus himself cautioned his disciples that the love of most would grow cold as the centuries rolled on. Do the stories of mass shootings and bombings fill you with dread? “Look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:2,3).

Where do you go with your fears? How about to your Father? He has been sheltering and protecting believers since sin’s beginning. His eyes never slumber nor sleep in his care of us. His army of angels carries out heroic defense against the forces of hell.

Believers can’t lose. Even if their earthly lives are taken, they get a far better one in heaven

Dr. Bernie Siegel: Frequently when I’m in a hospital room with a dying patient, we are laughing. Out in the hallway, the other staff members often think we are denying reality. We must realize that people aren’t living or dying; they are either alive or dead. As long as they are alive, we must treat them that way. For this reason, I find the work “terminal” very upsetting. It means we’ve begun to treat that person as though he or she were already dead, incapable of laughter and joy. From Love, Medicine and Miracles
