    There's no smoke without fire
There's no such thing as a free lunch
There's no such thing as bad publicity
There's no time like the present
There's none so deaf as they that will not hear
    There's one born every minute
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it
Those who sleep with dogs will rise with fleas
Time and tide wait for no man
    Time is a great healer
To err is human, to forgive divine
To the victor goes the spoils
To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive
    Tomorrow never comes
Too many cooks spoil the broth
    Truth is stranger than fiction
    Turn of phrase
Two heads are better then one
Two wrongs don't make a right
Walk softly but carry a big stick
    Waste not want not
We've arrived, and to prove it we're here
When the cat's away the mice will play
    Where there's a will there's a way
Worrying never did anyone any good
You can't get blood out of a stone
You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear
You can't make an omelet without breaking eggs
You can't make bricks without straw
You can't teach an old dog new tricks
You can't tell a book by looking at its cover
You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar
Youth is wasted on the young

PHRASES THAT REFER TO PARTS OF THE BODY (350 of them so it will take a few days)

    A babe in arms
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
    A dab hand at
    A finger in many pies
    A foot in the door
    A glass jaw
A good head on his shoulders
    A head for figures
    A head for heights
    A head like a sieve
A healthy mind in a healthy body
    A heart of gold
    A heart to heart talk
    A heart-warming experience
    A kick in the teeth
A man after his own heart
    A nose for crime
    A nose for trouble
    A pain in the arse
    A price on his head
    A shot in the arm
    A smack on the wrist
    A strong stomach
    A thick ear
    A thorn in the flesh
    A well turned calf
    Able bodied
    Above my head
Absence makes the heart grow fonder
    After your own heart
    Air head
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth
    All mouth and trousers
All my eye and Betty Martin
Always have your nose in a book
    An affair of the heart
    An albatross round his neck
    An ample bosom
An army marches on its stomach
    An ear bashing
    An ear for music
    An eye for a bargain
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
An iron fist in velvet glove
An old head on young shoulders
    Ankle biter
    Ankle deep
    Arm in arm
    Armed to the teeth
    Arse about face
    Arse over tit
As busy as a one legged arse kicker
As cold as a well digger's arse
As crooked as a dog's hind leg
As cute as a bug's ear
As far as the eye can see
    As fine as frog's hair
    As long as my arm
As mad as a bear with a sore head
As many chins as a Chinese phone book
As plain as the nose on your face
    As scarce as hen's teeth
    As stiff as a poker
As tight as a duck's arse
As useless as tits on a boar
    Athlete's foot

    Bad hair day
Banging your head against a brick wall
    Bare one's teeth
    Be it on your head
    Be still my quiet heart
    Bear arms
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
    Bend your ear
    Bend your elbow
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick
    Bird's eye view
    Bite someone's head off
Bite the hand that feeds you
    Bite your head off
    Bite your lip
    Bite your tongue
    Body and soul
    Body bag
    Body blow
    Body building
    Body heat
    Body language
    Body of evidence
    Body of opinion
    Body politic
    Body popping
    Body snatcher
    Body surfing
Born with a silver spoon in his mouth
    Bosom pals
    Bound hand and foot
    Bow the knee
    Brain dead
    Brain drain
    Brain teaser
    Brain wave
    Break a leg
    Bring to a head
    Brothers in arms
Bury your head in the sand
    Butt head
Butter wouldn't melt in her mouth
    Butterflies in my stomach
    Button your lip
By the hairs on my chinny chin chin, I'll blow your house down
By the skin of your teeth
By the sweat of his brow

    Verse of the Day
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
    Psalms 22:1-3 NIV

"Youth is wasted on the young"
In my early 20's I worked with a gentleman twice my age who liked to use this phrase. I didn't understand it at the time, but now in my 30's I'm starting to see it. Now I've got a young guy in his 20's working with me and I'm thinking that phrase quite a bit, so much energy spent doing things that dont add any value to your life or someone else's life. Of course I'm not well advanced in years myself, but I'm starting to see the meaning behind that, or at least what I've gotten from it.

Keep on keeping on! You will continue to learn through the years and it does make you wonder. If only some things could be taught to young people but it seems they have to experience some of the same foolish things we experienced.

Can't make head or tail of it
Can't see beyond the end of your nose
    Cap in hand
    Case the joint
    Cast an eye over
Caught with your hand in the till
    Change of heart
    Cheek by jowl
    Chin wag
    Chip on his shoulder
    Cold hands warm heart
Come the three corners of the world in arms
    Condemned out of hand
    Contemplate my navel
Cost an arm and a leg
Couldn't make head or tail of it
Cross my heart and hope to die
    Cross my palm with silver
    Cry your heart out
Cut off your nose to spite your face
    Cut throat competition
    Dancing cheek to cheek
    Dead from the neck up
Doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground
Doesn't know his arse from his elbow
Don't bite the hand that feeds you
Don't bother your pretty little head about it
Don't get your tits in the wringer
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth
    Down in the mouth
    Ear splitting
    Eat your heart out
    Eating out of someone's hand
    Elbow grease
    Elbow room
    Extend the hand of friendship
    Eye catching
Eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog
    Eye to eye
Eyes in the back of your head

    Remembering fields and pastures.
    Now all asphalt and concrete.
Time flies by in a heart beat.
    A beard turning grey.
    Farms surrounded by houses.
No more bringing fresh milk back home in a can.

Faint heart never won fair lady
Fed up to the back teeth
Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
    Fight tooth and nail
    Finger lickin good
    Fleet of foot
    Flesh and blood
    Flesh out
    Foam at the mouth
    Follow your nose
    Foot in mouth
    Foot the bill
    Frog in the throat
From the bottom of my heart
    Gentleman at arms
    Get it in the neck
    Get it into your head
    Get it off your chest
Get off on the right foot
Get off on the wrong foot
    Get off your arse
    Get out of hand
Get the bit between your teeth
    Get the upper hand
    Get up your nose
    Get your eye in
    Get your finger out
    Get your teeth into
    Get your tongue round it
    Give head
    Give him a big hand
    Give one's eye teeth for
    Give one's right arm for
    Given the elbow
    Glass chin
    Gnash your teeth
    Go and boil your head
    Go boil your head
    Go cap in hand
    Go down on bended knee
    Go for the throat
    Go out on a limb
Go the way of all flesh
    Go to your head
    Gone tits up
    Got it on the brain
    Got my eye in
    Got my eye on
Got to hand it to you
    Got your head screwed on
    Got your heart set on
Granny, what big teeth you have got
    Grate on the ear
    Grease one's palm
    Grin from ear to ear
    Grit your teeth

    Hair raising
    Hand in glove
    Hand in hand
    Hand it on a plate
    Hand me downs
    Hand over fist
    Hand picked
    Hand to mouth
    Hang your head
    Harden your heart against
    Have a hand in
    Have a heart
    He makes my flesh creep
He put in his thumb and pulled out a plumb
He wears his heart on his sleeve
    Head and shoulders above
    Head banger
    Head case
    Head first
    Head honcho
    Head in the clouds
    Head of hair
    Head off
    Head off at the pass
    Head over heels in love
    Head start
    Head to head
    Heart and soul
    Heart of stone
    Heart rending
    Heart throb
    Heart warming
    Hell's teeth
    Here's mud in your eye
    Here's one in your eye
Hit the nail on the head
    Hold your tongue
Holding your cards close to your chest
Home is where the heart is
    Housemaid's knee
How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child?
I spy with my little eye
I will wear my heart upon my sleeve
I'll go to the foot of our stairs
I've got my eye on you
If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?
    In my heart of hearts
In one ear and out the other
    In over your head
In the twinkling of an eye
    Is there anybody there?
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God
It's no skin off my nose

    WORD From The Woods

    Revelation 2:8-11

“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.

“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty ( but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.”

The church in Smyrna was one of the two churches out of the seven mentioned in Revelation that did not receive any kind of rebuke. The believers there were simply encouraged to be strong and keep their eyes on Christ. The city of Smyrna was a port city know for its cults and temples to different pagan gods. There was also a zealous following of Jews that rejected Christ as Messiah and they were persecuting the Christians in Smyrna. Between the Jews and all the pagan cults, the Christians there were under intense persecution and I’m sure that they felt alone and that their trials would never end. They were in poverty, likely because they had been blacklisted from the business community for choosing to follow Jesus instead of the culture. They were told that their suffering would get worse before it got better, that some would face prison and even death. But even death would not conquer them because Christ offers the crown of life, eternal life! Despite their poverty, they were rich in Christ! They were told that in comparison to eternity, their persecution was like 10 days and if they just persevere and keep their eyes on Christ, by His power, they will be victorious in the end. This message of encouragement is not just for the Christians in Smyrna 2000 years ago, it also applies to us today. The same Jesus that they followed back then is the very same Jesus we follow today. We might not be facing the same kind of persecution today where we live, but many of our brothers and sisters do around the world. Someday, maybe very soon we will face it here as well. We do face a very real opposition to the things of God, just watch anything on TV an you’ll see the blatant messages against God. If Jesus sent a message to us like He did to the seven churches in Revelation, would we receive rebuke form our King our just encouragement to continue standing against the wickedness of the culture around us?

God Bless and have a great week! -Terry

    Keep your hand in
    Keep your head above water
    Keep your head down
    Keep your nose out of
Keep your nose to the grindstone
Keep your shoulder to the wheel
    Kill the fatted calf
    Knee high to a duck
    Knee high to a grasshopper
    Knee jerk reaction
    Knee trembler
    Knock it on the head
    Know by heart
    Knuckle down

    Knuckle sandwich
    Knuckle under
    Lame brain
    Laugh your head off

    Lead with the chin
    Learnt off by heart
    Leg it
    Leg over
    Leg up
    Lend a helping hand
    Lend an ear
    Let your hair down
    Lie through your teeth
Like a chicken with its head cut off
    Long in the tooth
    Look death in the eye
    Look down your nose
    Lose your heart
    Loud mouth
    Lying through his teeth

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Near and dear to my heart
    Near the knuckle
    Neck and crop
    Neck and neck
    Neither hide nor hair
    Nose to tail
Not a dry eye in the house
Nothing succeeds like a parrot with no teeth
Off the top of my head
    Off with his head
    Off your head
    On bended knee
    On the back foot
    On the one hand
    On the other hand
On the tip of my tongue
On your own head be it
    One foot in the grave
    One in the eye
    One toe over the line
    Open your big mouth
    Out of your head
    Out on your ear
    Over my dead body
    Palm off
    Pay lip service to
    Pay through the nose
Paying an arm and a leg
    Petrol head
    Pig's ear
    Play by ear
    Pound of flesh
    Pressing the flesh
    Pull your finger out
    Pull your hair out
    Put words into someone's mouth
    Put your best foot forward
    Put your foot down
    Put your foot in it
Put your foot in your mouth
Put your head into the lion's mouth
Put your head on the block
Put your money where your mouth is
Put your nose out of joint
    Roll off the tongue
    Rub someone's nose in it
    Rub your nose in it
    Rule of thumb
    Rule with an iron fist

    Scared stiff
    Seeing eye to eye
    Set foot in
    Set your heart on something
    Set your teeth on edge
    Shake a leg
    Sharp tongue
    Shift your arse
    Shoot your mouth off
    Shoot yourself in the foot
    Shove it down someone's throat
    Sick to the stomach
    Sink your teeth into it
    Skeleton in the cupboard
    Sleight of hand
    Slip of the tongue
    Smart arse
    Smiling from ear to ear
    Snap someone's head off
    Sob your heart out
    Soft in the head
    Stand it on its head
    Stick your neck out
    Sticks in your throat
Sticks out like a sore thumb
    Straight from the horse's mouth
Strong in the arm and thick in the head
    Take it on the chin
Take the bit between your teeth
Take the words out of my mouth
    Take your hand in marriage
    Talking over your head
    Tear your hair out
    The apple of his eye
    The business at hand
The hand is quicker than the eye
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world
    The head of the family
    The heart has its reasons
The long arm of the law
    The moving finger writes
The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing
The shoe's on the other foot
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak
The sun is over the yard arm
    The way of all flesh
The way to a man's heart is through his stomach
    The whip hand
There's many a slip twixt cup and lip
    This neck of the woods
    Thumb your nose
    Thumbnail sketch
    Toe the line
    Tongue in cheek
    Tooth and nail
    Try your hand
    Turn a blind eye
    Turn the other cheek
    Turn up your nose
    Twist around your little finger
    Twist your arm
    Under my thumb
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown
    Up in arms
Up to your neck in trouble
    Van Gogh's ear for music
Warms the cockles of my heart
Wash your mouth out with soap and water
Wear your heart on your sleeve
White man speak with forked tongue
    With a jaundiced eye
Without a leg to stand on
    Word of mouth
    Wrapped around your little finger
You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear
    You're pulling my leg
    Young at heart
Your eyes are bigger than your stomach
