A journey of a thousand miles begins with a lot of money on hand. A penny saved is ridiculous nowadays. It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education. Albert Einstein It’s not hard to meet expenses, they are everywhere. Mediocrity thrives on standardization. Some grow with responsibility, others just swell.
February 17, 2019 Verse of the Day And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NIV
Democracy is where you can say what you think, even if you don’t think. The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names. Chinese proverb Seems nobody in America does that anymore. My favorites for stupid names are “sanitation engineers,” and “lock-up facilities.” Or: in 1982, the EPA called acid rain, “poorly buffered precipitation.” Or: The Defense Department, when purchasing a hammer, described it as a, “manually powered fastener-driving impact device.” GM, closing an entire plant and laying off thousands of workers said, “We are making a volume-related production schedule adjustment.” Department of Transportation calls road signs, “ground-mounted confirmatory route markers.” Programming computers is a race between programmers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning. The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.
It’s scary when you realize the earth is being run by “C” students. There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. The actions of men gives you a good clue to their thoughts. You can lead a boy to college, but you can’t make him think. If all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion. Drawing on my excellent command of the English language, I said nothing.
February 18, 2019 Verse of the Day “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:10 NIV
February 19, 2019 Verse of the Day Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 1 John 2:15-16 NIV
Remember that nobody will ever get ahead of you as long as he is kicking you in the seat of the pants. He who dares nothing need hope for nothing. Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing. Albert Einstein Creditors have better memories than debtors. Better to go to bed hungry than rise in debt. Flattery is like perfume. To be smelt, not swallowed.
Here is a couple of old sayings from our kinfolks. "You can get used to anything, but a rock in your shoe." "You can't keep birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest there"
February 20, 2019 Verse of the Day But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
Gray hair is a sign of age, not wisdom. To get to Heaven, turn right and keep straight. When you don’t have an education, you have to use your brains. Common sense is instinct and enough of it is genius. Diligence is the mother of good luck. Ben Franklin. The main object of religion is not to get men into Heaven, it is to get Heaven into men.
February 21, 2019 Verse of the Day Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28 NIV
Some people are like wheelbarrows. Only useful when pushed and very easily upset. Once some people make up their minds, they are full of indecision. Do the thing that’s right because it’s the right thing to do. It’s kind of fun to do the impossible. Walt Disney Everywhere is within walking distance if you have enough time (and are able to walk). Life is too important to be taken too seriously.
February 22, 2019 Verse of the Day Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right. Never go to bed mad. It’s better to stay up and fight. To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter.. to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a birds nest or a wildflower in spring. These are some of the rewards of the simple life. John Burroughs The day, water, sun, moon, night; I do not have to purchase these things with money. You can’t be suspicious of a tree or accuse a bird or squirrel of subversion or even challenge the ideology of a flower.
February 23, 2019 Verse of the Day And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Acts 2:21 NIV
Humankind cannot stand very much reality. There nature is to argue and procrastinate, yet we persist in electing lawyers to Congress. Ben Franklin I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Albert Einstein The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once. Peace cannot be achieved through violence; it can only be attained through understanding. Don’t think that knowledge and wisdom are the same. One helps you make a living and the other helps you make a life.
February 24, 2019 Verse of the Day So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, Colossians 2:6 NIV
He that knows little often repeats it. There never was an age in which useless knowledge was more important than in our own time. If you have half a mind to tell someone off, it’s better to wait until the other half gets control. If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. That is the principle difference between a man and a dog. Mark Twain Outside a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside a dog, it’s too dark to read. Groucho Marx When everything else fails, the duct tape probably will too.
February 25, 2019 Verse of the Day Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 NIV
When young people grow up, the first sign of maturity is the discovery that the volume knob turns counter-clockwise too. They say we’re here on earth to do good to others. I have no idea what others are put here for. Take what you need from the land, but need what you take. Aboriginal law Discovery is seeing what everybody else has seen and thinking what nobody else has thought. Perhaps what wisdom is, is that you suddenly understand something you’ve understood all along, only in a new way. Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.
