Tears and laughter are the language of the heart. The heart does not lie and cannot commit treason. The heart of a fool is in his mouth but the mouth of a wise man is in his heart. Don’t kill porcupines with your bare fists. Hedges have eyes and walls have ears. (I can't help but always thinking of the phrase, "Don't bend over in the garden Granny. You know those taters have eyes.")
People often grow in height at the expense of their brains. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Hell is never full. If you try to please everybody, you please nobody.
Slow help is no help. God’s help is nearer than the door. An apple does not fall far from the apple tree. The sins of the fathers are visited upon the children. As the tree is, so is the fruit.
A long forgotten barn feeling the weight of time.....time catches up with all of us....sooner or later.
There's a barn, not far from us, this reminds me of. We were passing it a few weeks ago, and I pointed it out to my wife. She said it's a shame barns are allowed to get into that condition. I told her it was probably a couple that kept their place in great condition most of their lives, as they grew older it's so difficult to keep up the place, even simple chores. Eventually everything falls into disrepair, if they own the place until their advance age, by that time it's not worth trying to restore it. As you say, time catches up with all of us....sooner or later. Sad to think about, but so true. I'll have to take a picture of it next time I pass by.
As the twig is bent the tree is inclined. Like father, like son. The stream will not rise above its source. The hermit has known many men and has therefore fled to the woods. To believe in the heroic makes heroes.
No man is a hero to his wife or his butler. Concealed knowledge is buried treasure. Hidden wisdom differs little from ignorance. Those who hide know how to find. If our foresight were as good as our hindsight we would never make mistakes.
Hindsight is better than foresight. The history of human opinion is the history of human errors. History is fiction with the truth left out. History does not repeat itself; historians do. Envy and greed never have a holiday.
Home is where you hang your hat. Every bird likes his own nest best. A clean mouth and an honest hand will take a man through any land. Honesty is the best policy. Let honesty and industry be your consistent companions.
Don’t measure your neighbor’s honesty by your own. Of all crafts, to be an honest man is the master’s craft. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. If you want to gather honey, you must be willing to bear the stings. Better to die with honor than live with shame.
If I lose my honor I lose myself. The hook with no bait catches no fish. Where there is life, there is hope. Don’t feed yourself on false hopes. Hope is a medicine every doctor can dispense without cost to the patient.
Hope is the poor man’s bread. Hope keeps the heart from breaking. After black clouds, clear weather. It’s a long lane that has no turning. The man without hope needs no antagonist: he beats himself. A well prepared mind hopes in adversity and fears in prosperity.
Hope is a good breakfast but a bad supper. Every cloud has a silver lining. The best is yet to come. A delay is not necessarily a denial. Don’t lock the stable after the horses are stolen.
