Thank you! I do what I can - wood cutting is one of my vices, I guess I could have worse ones! The last couple of years I've made it a point to cut a cord or two of pine. It seasons fast and is perfect for shoulder season, plus it's easy to find because everyone else around here is afraid to burn it!

That they are, terrified in fact, my father acc father in law included, I told my father in law who doesn't know where he's going to get next years wood, that I would deliver a trial run pick up load from a hour away and he said he would let it rot. As much as id like, you can't help those who don't want help.

this year i will be burning some oak which will be the driest to date. 16/17 wood is all set, just needs top cover before the leaves start falling. 17/18 we gotta get working on...

Had there been a choice of "same amount of wood but better dried", I would have voted that. Last winter's w.oak was 3 years stacked and the ash stacked one year. For this upcoming burn season, add a year stacked for each.
I voted for the last option to be goofy. Heheh.

Yeah Shaggy I've had pretty much the same experience and have come to the same conclusions. I keep my mouth shut anymore. "Keep your green oak if you want!"

I've currently got 12.6 cord split and stacked. Last season I burned 3 cord, the most I've ever burned, so using that as worst case scenario, I'm good for:
    2015/16
    2016/17
    2017/18
    2018/19

I'm also FULL! Can't fit another log anywhere on my property. So I can't even scrounge until late Jan or Feb when I start burning down my sheds and start moving new wood into the sheds and making space... It's been interesting all summer driving past wood on the side of the road, and not being able to get it!!!

I'm much better prepared than last year. Mostly because I've been working at it off and on for over a year. And getting many standing dead trees. I figure I have close to 12 cord put up with about 6 cord good and dry and ready to burn right now. I burn between 2-3 cord per year. I think I'm good, but still cutting, blocking, splitting and stacking. I enjoy it!!

I have never been concerned with falling leaves. We usually top cover around December 1 or before the snow piles up. If we were to have an extremely wet fall I'd cover sooner, otherwise, leaf drop poses no problem here and never has.

i have two sets of 'covers' for my three wood stacks and i bring the winters worth of wood into the barn during september so the timing is right to get the cover onto the next stack. WRT leaves, it cant hurt. and over here top covered wood seasons much better.

actually I am a bit farther behind. for several reasons February, helping out those not prepared for it. but another big push is coming. I should get by and get a little more ahead before snows too deep to be safe..

Probably if I lived in your state I would top cover even sooner! I've visited before and lots and lots of rain. My son works in the state too and he is constantly telling me how much rain falls. So yes, top covering for the rain is necessary.

We do the same with putting wood in the barn; usually in October.

Yes Shaggy. With any soft covering, you have to make sure you have a high point and no place where water can sit, otherwise, that water gets heavy and will take down plastic or tarps.

Yea I've been wanting to take care of it but this has been an extremely busy summer, remodeling a bedroom siding 2-3 walls of our house a full time job and welding on the side takes some time
