This person's woodyard nirvana...kinda....sorta

An acquaintance picked one up with it has a belly mower and a loader had just over 1,000 hours. It’s 25 hp diesel, I think he was at $3,500. Good price for a 4x4 diesel do all. We aren’t getting any younger. These pieces of equipment aure help take the hard labor out of things. Keeping us doing what we love for a lot longer.

 

A very gratifying sight and always a work in progress.

I planned my last layout based on the wheelbarrow dimensions. 30" between stacks.

 

The cooler dry air got me itching for some trigger time.

1st was the branches from tree #2. Mostly, still solid.





Then, the main trunk log. 4ft lengths.


Too awkward to flip out as is. Will need to buck to 16in.

There's other stuff I needto do, but I've started on it!

 

That is some good looking ash. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one that fresh. Usually starting to degrade by the time I find them

I couldn't let this nice cool, dry air skip by without some wooding.

I bucked 4 logs and tossed the rounds (3per log) over the stone wall where I could split them.




I used an old stump for a splitting block






I filled a 5th rack. 1.66 cord, so far


I then started a 6th rick of splits.


I'd still like to figure out how I can skid the rest of the logs, in their 4ft lengths, to where I can buck n split.

I think I can lay limbs/branches between the logs and stone wall. Using a rope-a-long and a peavey to get by any hangups, I hope to slide the logs along the limb/branch pad. We'll see.

 

I think I’d just cut the tops without hitting a rock and then try to spin em with the peavy to finish. Wrap a strap around an end and use the comealong? Just remember ropes store energy. Anything that slips off will fly and you’ll be right there to catch it. Just in case you had the idea to use a steel hook on the furthers end to stand them up

I'll use the rope-along. Ill just use a hitch knot on thr log end.

 

Can you spear with your pickeroon and drag it out or too heavy?

 

Way too heavy in 4ft lengths.

Truckaa will be here in the morning and we'll see if we can manually skid them out.

 

Plan A, which worked, but took a long time.




We then moved on to plan B




As we worked towards the tree top, the log was getting thinner and lighter. So, Truckaa flipped the pieces end over end. Very thankful he was around.

I was cutting the tree top branches and tossing them to where Truckaa would get them and move them down the line.

I spent some time bucking. Still more to do, but I can decide to split or cut, as I feel..
