With rack #4 filled how much does that make? Did you retrieve the smaller tree that fell into the wooded area?
8ft racks. So, 1.3 cords so far, from that one ash. The ash tree in the woods hasn't been touched yet.
Again taking advantage of cooler summer temps and less smoky haze, I decided to make firewood. Not many rounds left. Just one one my saw is on and the gnarly one below. That'll need some doodling, for sure. In the top picture, you see a shorter round. That's my splitting "table". It's the piece of trunk the tree service stabbed off, right below their felling cuts. It's getting time to go take a closer look at the ash tree in the woods. I need to decide how to atack it. There's a rock wall as well as briars on either side of it. The briars I'll cut back. The rocks just need to be avoided.
Well, today was nice enough to go visit felled tree #2. I was armed with leather gloves, lopper, hand pruner, and log tongs. After a couple hundred snips and cuts, I got to about the midpoint of the log. Lots of briars/brambles cut into 6-12" pieces. That short removes them as tripping hazards. Looking towards the woodyard area. And now towards what's left of the tree top. There's air under the log in places, between the rocks.. I'm hoping they're in the 4-foot areas. Even at that, I might have to buck shorter due to uneven ground. I managed to pull out a few broken branches. They felt heavy enough to put in the woodstove racks and not the campfire pile. The log and stump in proximity to the woodyard. I then moved a few loads of splits I made earlier this week from tree # 1.
I did perform more cutting of brush and briars today. I marked out 4foot lengths, of which there are 9. There's more beyond the last 4foot section. I'm hoping I can flip the 4-footers end over end out of the woods and off the rocks. That'll be a task for fall temps.
Cant tell you how often I've done that. I've also used logs tongs or a pickeroon and skidded them out.
No memory needed. KISS method. Each 8ft rack has it's "nap start" date. There's space enough between each row for the 28" snowblower to get through. There's rack space for 10cord there.
Maybe a riding mower type of tractor, someday. We're on just 3/4 acre. Less than half of that is mowable lawn.
Kubota BX comes to mind, it seems to me it’s a really big lawn mower but has tractor attachments like a loader or grapple.
