Oh boy. Better add "king of firewood" to the list of topics that should be approached gingerly; right up there with religion and politics
Some good points but I still would not say it is king. I do not like what you stated about ash. That is, you can almost burn it after you cut it. Too many take that as fact but it is not. A fresh cut white ash tends to be around 35% moisture. That is not almost ready to burn. Another point you missed is when you were comparing red vs white oak. You stated white doesn't grow as large and I don't remember if you commented red oak grows faster. It has been my experience that the tree that grows slow (generally speaking) will be harder and will also burn longer. As for splitting, the majority of wood burners now own hydraulics. I am surprised you did not mention beech, ironwood, Some birch, etc. But from the video I perceive you have an abundance of red oak so naturally you would tend to rate it high.
Great points Dennis. I did say to let Ash season for a full year. Also many of the White Ashes being taken down are already dead and a lower MC. People are going to do what they want regardless of my video. I did not mention Beech or Ironwood because I seldom see it ever. I thought I mentioned Black Birch. I do have a Black Birch video coming out Friday. I do appreciate you watching the video. Most comment without even watching it and ask questions that were answered or discussed in the video.
