Yes, like jo191145, details please. I am thinking about getting a rope puller and bock and tackle etc. Years ago took down a bunch of oaks with chains and a reg come-along. But had a neighbor who evidently was as crazy as I was, and was willing to do the "crank the winch and run" thing.... Looking to be a little smarter nowdays....
I didn't take pics of it while cutting. I put tension on the rope prior to the back cut. Started that and wedged in pretty good leaving a very wide hinge (it was a hazard next to a garage). Finished back cut and used an industrial strength ratchet strap connected to the rope to pull the tree over, from off to the side. No way I would have been anywhere near the area that dead wood would fall and as you can see, there was lots of it up top which all fell apart prior to hitting the ground. The rope wasn't pulling perfectly straight to the hinge but it got the tree moving in the right direction. Saw was off and when the top started going, I still beat the feet outta there. It looked like it wanted to fall pretty much to the left in his pic and it fell the direction the camera is pointed. This was the anchor tree and strap after the fall.
yeah, I’m having trouble describing what I mean. Not the first time. Im thinking more of a guide rope set at an appropriate angle. No tension, no pulling. More of a safety rope to make sure it doesn’t go in the direction it wants and if it did it would redirect the tree away from direction of fall. Need a stout rope of course and hung high up in the tree that’s falling. Definitely a pucker and run job. I could see snapped hinges and trunks shooting off in strange directions Good you got yours down safely. In the end that’s what counts.
