Ok, in all its glory here is " sawkenstein" included is the sawdust, and chips, plus some bar oil, it WORKS! I REALLY LIKE this old saw!! I've got its twin in the wood shed. Even after all these years it still has the original rubber/ plastic cover on the bars. Kind of lookin for a outside ''Dog'' to finish it off a little more.
I bought one for mine from HLSupply a little while back. It is a match to the factory inside dog. Pretty reasonable price I think, maybe $7
I was informed of the saw being on CL by Sandhillbilly who was told by M2theB. Sandhillbilly asked if i could buy the saw and send it to him. Model he was seeking. Turns out the location was two minutes from my friends house where i store my wood and it worked out perfect. Maybe SHB can show the thread he posted. I still drive by the house regularly and have deemed it "the 266 house" I owned the saw for a week or so and never cut with it. EDIT: i didnt realize he had already replied.
I figured there was a good story from your earlier post. Nice to have someone local to check out the saw in person. FHC Member power!
I smile when i see pics of it in your posts. I always say "where's the 266" I look for the metal brake lever.
I found it on CL then talked to the guy, we met in person, he then, fired it up, I bought it, later thought i'd been sold a bad saw, but, then, realized its a really good saw, lots of life left in it, and i'm a happy camper. It IS a great wood cutting saw.
With the age of the saw, you may notice the top cover isn't as tight as it used to be. The plastic top cover will wear a groove in the maincase. You can build the groove back up to level with JB Weld and it will last. And you won't end up with stripped out cover screws.
Can someone give me some measurements for a OUTER FALLING DOG for a husky 266 XP please? Thank you, I’m looking for some factory measurements, stud hole size, width of mounting bracket , length of mounting bracket to the back side of mounting bracket, to the beginning of the “ teeth” , tooth base.
Here is a fresh pic of my 266XP with 2 bar from today. Used it to fill the truck some Ash. It took two tanks worth of gas. My plan is this will provide some heat 3-4 winters from now. Now to go find a beer and cumfy chair. Cheers!
