Not much different down here. Folks just dont know. Ive tried to educate people and its up to them if they learn or not. I had a new customer call me last week for a half cord. He had been buying from a similar seller who fresh split his "seasoned" wood.
Pick up a good customer base and give them a good product and you'll be all set.

I would be incensed too. Had a customer two years ago buy a half cord. The prior wood was delivered out of a dumpster covered in mud and far from being ready to burn.
Can you charge extra to deliver for them Joe or you wont go that far?

I'm figuring I sell between 25-35 cords a year. Never had anyone tell me it was junk or wouldn't burn. I'm picky about what goes out the door. This is what the next 5 cords will be like +/- a few percent. The piece in the pic is a resplit hunk of hickory. I thought it felt a little heavy that's why I resplit it. I know some are not fans of the MM but it's a good indicator for selling.

Her husband has a truck and they were going to come pick up but she admitted she got lazy. This is her second husband- her first died about 8-10 years ago. Shame he wasn’t alive, he was 6’7”, over 300 pounds and freakishly strong. They would have had to call the coroner not the police!

I'm also in that group. Seems like most of the guys there sell there wood green. I don't have a problem with that as long as you let the customer know.

Theres a large nursey in the area. In addition to trees and plants, they sell crafts, mulch, pavers, etc... Their prices are always high, IMO, though their trees are nice quality. Wife stopped there today to use a gift card and my son said they had firewood for sale. He went to check it out. He thinks its oak. Said it was real heavy and no way dry. Asking $250.00/ cord.

If it's who I'm thinking of I looked at their wood a few years ago and it had a lot of poplar on the pallets they were selling.

This is outrageous. I just cleaned up an old wood splitting site of mine and burned a pile that looked exactly like that in my burn pit because it was worthless for anything else. Its amazing that the guy got mad when he should have been ashamed.

So an update to that pile of muddy lousy wood:
The woman called weights and measures first thing this morning. They were there within a couple of hours to measure the stacked pile. Turns out she was almost 30% short of a full cord. Not sure how they are proceeding yet though

I will Respectfully Disagree with you that “Logs don’t Dry”, Nope not in a month or two, and several things like Climate and type of wood, factor into it, but YES Logs will Dry

These log decks were cut and stacked, making Fire Breaks for the September 2017 Eagle Creek Fire in Oregon. The Forest Circus opened them to Wood Cutters in 2019, we got our first loads in June of 2019, so the logs had been decked about 21 months. The upper layers of logs that were more exposed to the Sun and Wind were in the 11-13% Moisture Content range, that was measured after cutting and splitting fresh rounds, actually got a couple smaller logs from the “Tops Deck” that were 9% MC, Stove Ready, I will take that all day long

These were mostly white Fir with some Douglas Fir and Hemlock mixed in. Hardwoods like Oak and Hickory probably wouldn’t have seasoned as well, and the deeper into the Decks we got, the higher the MC got, but we got probably 6 cords of Stove ready wood out of those decks, and unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones cutting on them, a LOT of heating came out of those logs that winter

Parked the trailer right next to the decks, and most of the time we were the only ones there, the Dog LOVED being able to run free, she doesn’t get to do that often, and she had Tons of Fun climbing the decks, started a Bad Habit, I had some rounds stacked at home, with sloped ends that I had to restack So she Couldn’t climb them

she should file a complaint with BBB and the state board that governs firewood there.
Shaming might work, getting harassed by the state stings a little more.
(edit to add I didn't read completely and saw she contacted the agency, good for her!
Guys around do that same thing, which is why I started processing my own after the 1st year and half.
Sadly not everyone can process theirs and are at the mercy of a lot of shady firewood sellers.

I don't think anyone here doesn't trust or think that MM's are worthless, I just think those that are so many years ahead with Split and stacked firewood don't really have the need for them.
