My log guy stopped by bright and early this morning. 18 pieces of red oak and one lonely piece of hickory. It was supposed to be all red oak, I got ripped off. Yesterday he told me that he was very busy and would be here at 7:30 and that my yard needed to be prepped and the driveway needed to be clear because he didn't have any time to waste. He showed at 7:05, unloaded and left so fast that I almost had no chance to get off my deck to shake his hand and say thanks as he got in his truck to leave. The last time I got a load from him was in 2013 and as fate would have it I will burn the last pieces from that stack today. This will probably come up in the rotation in '21 or '22 He charged me extra for the piece of rope. Blue stain, got some metal in this wood. Which explains the very low price. Piece sticking out on the bottom right is hickory, the rest is red oak.
All crane harvested, clean yard wood. He was even nice enough to trim the flares off the butt end. Makes it much easier to roll. I'd say a little short of 4 cords.
Almost 4 cords you say. If you don't mind, what did that set you back? Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
I’m jealous. We haven’t had much snow all winter then got 20+inches in the last 2 weeks. The roads are now posted so I may have to wait a month for my log delivery.
A handshake and a thank you as jumped back in his truck and went on his way. He was looking like he had another job and a deadline to meet. I assume he was going to pick up logs from other jobs that are marketable and get them to wherever he needed to take them and wanted his truck empty. This stuff does have a LOT of metal in it. No processor would take it. He would have had to pay to dump it someplace much further away than the 10 minutes I am from his shop.
That's a great deal! You'd have to ruin a lot of chains to get to the point that it wouldn't make financial sense. How good are you are chain grinding?
Paul & Backwoods Savage, I would love to have a whole log of hickory dropped of in my yard. I have only just recently discovered the joys of smoking meat and the only hickory I have found locally is a bit pricey! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
