This is what it is all about!

I cleaned my chimney and stovepipe this morning and I got less than 2 quarts of soot. It has been a year since I cleaned my chimney and I burned around 4.5 cord of 2+ year seasoned wood last season. Absolutely no shiny black creosote! This why we believe what we do on this site. I sleep soundly knowing there is no chance of a chimney fire. I had several people tell how dangerous wood burning is when I got my stove.

Our first year burning we had not so seasoned wood, I had to resplit everything before we brought it inside, we had a moisture content between 20 - 25 percent. The 20 % M/C was the Cherry so we mixed that in with our Sugar Maple which was around 25 %.

 

How much soot did you get?

 

When I feel comfortable getting on the roof, I need to do the same.
Not because I think it needs it, but just to get a baseline.
I'm thinking/hoping the 30 will burn cleaner. From the little it got burned early this year, it sure looked like it did.
Like twl, the first 3 years or so were fairly miserable trying to burn water.
I'll clean the stove out before I do this so I can have nothing but black powder to show.

 

I clean the pipe on the outside from the bottom up in January (it gets cleaned before the season too) I'm not sure because I had a bag attached to the bottom of the pipe but it was a lot less than we expected, we also use this.

We have been using this spray since we started burning. I'll see if we have any old pictures from our cleanings, it usually goes in a bigger coffee can after the bag, I think the can holds 1 or 2 pounds of coffee.

 

I just cleaned very shortly before the burning season ended, but want to clean again before we start back up so I can get a good baseline for the new stove and better seasoned wood. Hope to do it by month's end, but loaning my brushes out to @Sinngetreu first. Will be really curious to see what he gets out of his.

Yeah, I started on the idea I needed dry wood before our first winter was done. The spring after our 1st winter here, I was stacking wood ASAP, then got a log load that fall to try getting ahead, while everyone was laughing at me.
Last winter, my brother (who was laughing at me for having so much wood) tried to get some wood from me.
Who's laughing now. Luck favors the prepared.

 

Does the BK have a cat? If it does you should check to see if the spray will damage the cat.

We have the Lopi Liberty, the inside has suffered no damage from the spray, the pipe looks the same too.

 

Good stuff Jack Noticed another load of logs not too far from here and they got about a quarter blocked as of today. Dont see any other wood around and thinking they are gonna burn it this year?
