I've been having mixed success with screen captures. When those fail, I snip from screen (PC) and it works.
Pic has to be under 1mb IIRC. If your using your phone, open your pic in photo editor, look for the "resize" option and pick 20-40%, should easily upload then. Don't "crop" it....."resize" it.
Several crops later. Some young, older and fallen in the patch. I’m surprised it gained a foothold over TOH and Va Pine.
There was some 4-6 footers that were a sight line obstruction. We rarely encounter them and it slipped my mind to warn of the spikes. Needless to say someone got a deep splinter through a glove. My bad I will dice up the fallen ones later on. The horizontal ones are still living.
There is no resize option on a newer iPhone, these are it: and for shiggles, I turned my resolution setting down as far as possible and this is the result: 2.7mb.
Chud Had some time to dig deeper into this issue. If your using a device that doesn’t have that initial resize option (I use an iPhone 16), I found a way to reduce file size in batches. First, go to your photos library, select all the images you want to upload and in the lower left, press this: next screen you will scroll to the bottom and press this: Next, press save; Next find the Files folder and open it. I do not pay for iCloud storage but.. that’s where these files go on my phone. Then three dots; Press select; Then tap on the photos you want to reduce the file size of; Lower right, three dots; Press convert image; I selected jpeg; First time I tried small. Pics were severely pixelated. Went to large and looked better; Phone will process that and create a copy image of lesser size; To post them to a thread, press upload like usual but after that, Select the copy image with the label large (or whichever size you picked) and then open. After all that, I’m going to need a few more margs. What a pita.
Just my luck. They fix the forum and a tree broke a the power lines and pole. Got any extra margaritas? iPhone here also. No resize option I could find either. I did find the option to save photos on my android device after hours of searching. It’s not easy either. I email photos from my iPhone to android. Take a screenshot which saves them in lessor quality. Then use those. Still a pita. Maybe, just maybe some day we can get the ability to use regular photos,,,, This site is very photo heavy tho. Me personally just think of the normal sub forums I frequent which isn’t so bad. But in reality as you look at other sub forums you realize just how many photos are on this sight. Then there’s the personal messaging that takes place here too. That all must be part of the package I assume. Lots of photos in them too. I’d still be interested just for personal knowledge how many TB’s of data this site holds. Not that I know anything about it but that’s a large determining factor in what kind of server system it can run on. I think it’s a lot bigger than I originally assumed.
That's painful, u can't believe there isn't an option to make photos a smaller format..... I'm still running an old Samsung, it's quite easy for me to change the file size and even revert it back to original once I've posted it. I copy any photos I wanna upload to a seperate folder and resize them for upload there.......then just delete them from that folder altogether. Can an app to do the re-sizing be downloaded? I've never wanted anything to do with any Apple product, namely because the files (music, video or photo) have to be preserved via Apple's own format.
It really is, and the host provider blames alot of the speed issues on that. But it's a whole basket of issues that we are working on and seemingly making the site much, much faster....at least here on my end.
I did get to witness some of the speed yesterday before the tree came down. Haven’t seen it that fast in years. And yes the forum software is old. I have been on other gun related forums and they did away with this long ago. That said it’s cranking now (if I ever get internet back) and we’re all used to the format. Maybe the patches will hold!!! I did go to another wood related forum the other day. I agree all those flashing ads are such a turnoff. It gets too confusing for us old timers LOL
Just bought a fresh bottle of marg mix so yes, plenty!! I’d love to see an auto resizer on the front end of the upload process. Sure would save a lot of headache. One things I’ve grown to love about this forum is the share of the score. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love “going along for the ride” when y’all post pic heavy threads showing your scores, processes, stacks etc. Joe and his killer trailer set-up, TJV and Miss Carols absolute perfect stacks, Brads escapades. The list goes on.. and, if they can’t share the journey it kinda takes the air out of our tires. After going through that resize crap, I have zero doubt the lower size photos look just fine to tell the story. The issue is definitely not that, it’s ease of use. And, if we are hogging up an insane amount of data storage space, many of us here are ready and willing to chip in for premium membership.
Too much work for this hillbilly. I have an older cheapest version iPhone and no lab top. I thought I was far enough away from the BL.
X2. And to get this cheapskate to open his wallet is not easy either! Would a premium membership include corporate helicopter useage?
Jason, I do like the idea of the "resizer" being in the upload window, we will certainly consider that when looking at the software upgrade! As for premium memberships, that too may be a way of curtailing rising costs to run the site......something to also consider going forward to keep ads away and/or at a minimum. When we get closer to doing an upgrade (gonna talk with another member here this weekend who's graciously offering his tech help in regards to that very chore) we will have a "think tank" thread and address all of the issues we've had here/ideas and improvements going forward. Til then, let me know how the site is working and if/when it acts up......and let's try our best to deal with the picture stuff (look up some tutorials for a way to shrink your file sizes) because I, like Jason and many others, love to see the hoards, dogs, tools, saws, cooking on the fire, family and wood stash pics! All of those things make this place great!
All good ideas Jason and Scotty. And yes it’s the pics that make the place. It’s what makes us a family sharing our day at the dinner table Another concern besides overall data stored is the guests. Now guests are a good thing if they’re good guests LOL As of typing this there are 8 members viewing and just under 6000 guests. That’s gotta be chewing up tons of bandwidth. Maybe software could limit guests to no pics or better yet they see an inferior pic resolution while we get the good stuff. Still dieing to know how much data we have stored on the main hard drive. That’s step one in understanding where we go from here.
