I'm with you, HDRock! Yeah, it's been seasonably warm here lately. But with persistent rain over the past few weeks(not like you're dealing with, Woodrat1276), the house cools off in the evenings when night time outside temps get into the upper 40's-lower 50's. Supposed to dip down to 38 later in the week- there will be heat coming from the wood stove.
Yesterday 77 and to much sun while cutting wood. Today cloudy rainy and working on garden between showers and 68. Here in se ohio
Had my flipflops on yesterday. Stove's been down for a couple weeks. Probably clean the stove and flue soon then start cutting and splitting.
I'm sure I'll be burning for another month . Not every nite but occasionally. I'll have to haul some more into the furnace room. Another 3-4 fires and I'll be sweeping the floor. Don't think I've seen the floor in there for many years. I'll prolly half fill it just to get some wood out of the shed. I've got a post that the frost got ahold of this winter and it needs corrected.
Even if i wanted to cut wood right now I couldn't burn season is over for sure. All this rain we are getting, it will be summer before we dry out.
Having a fire now and then, but not so much. We are trying run the oil tank out, before it is removed later this month or next. New heating system being installed. Don't plan on using that much, but need it for hot water and heating backup. We had frost last night so it is still cold here. Frost is still a risk right up to Memorial Day. Can even have one after that, but not likely. We do run the stove if it is damp inside. Nothing, but nothing is better to drive the dampness out.
you are so right, nothing wrong with a small fire to remove dampness and cracking a window in bedroom if it gets too warm... been doing it a few nights
I nearly got heat stroke working out in the sun last Friday, but it still cools down to around freezing at night, so a small fire at night keeps the chill off in the morning. Mind you, sometimes we are lazy and just let the heat pump get a little exercise at night. I must admit though, there is something unnerving about hearing the furnace running in the background. It just ain't right.
