If you have a clear fall area they can be fun, otherwise that’s a big No on the fun factor :)

That was my first thought and that is what I did. I took about 5 ft off in 2 rounds and it is still stuck.
The only difference this time around is that I don't feel it is safe to continue cutting off rounds. There is another tree blocking half of the approach and it could fall in a bad spot. I am generally not overly worried about safety but, I want to try some other things first.

Definitely it is a pull down job or else just be patient and Mother Nature will come to the rescue. Shoot, it is just some old popple.

Is that tulip poplar? I have 2 other massive tulip trees. They are 80-100 ft tall right now.

If you can beg or borrow a rope and couple of pulleys using one on the tree to double your pull and another as a redirect to keep you perpendicular from the line of fire your tractor should have no problem.

20200828_162112.jpg 20200828_162057.jpg Hoooray! It came down. Thanks for the help everyone!

The winch is attached to the original stump. The tree moved probably 25 ft or so.

Ive never used one for anything firewood. After watching your video maybe ill have to sometime. Years back my father and uncle would use a block and tackle to fell trees.

Nice chains too. Years ago I bought 2 20' chains when they cost $19.99 each. I can't imagine not having those. I use them all the time. A few tools can make all the difference. A come along is so handy also. I had opted for the rope type when I bought a new one. I have a couple of the cable ones but they are pretty junky at this point. I think I got them at garage sales years ago and maybe paid a buck for them. The cables are all twisted up and fraying and I should probably recycle them. When you need one, nothing else will do.

Good job getting that down safe.

Congrats! They are VERY handy, as you've now seen. Using a lawn tractor as you suggested earlier sounded like a horrible idea fwiw.

When I first started cutting I’d get those hangers all the time. Pretend I was a football player, put my shoulder too it and run. Just never forget to toss it off your shoulder. :)
    Thank God I got lazy.
