This ain’t good

Just over 900 hours on the machine and this flange? snapped off. Could see some fresh metal but also a bunch of rust on the break so it had been happening over time. Was going to take it to the dealer but one of the mechanics there lives 5 minutes away and does work out of his shop so I dropped it off to him yesterday.

 

Ouch.
What kind of machine is that? Looks like a good size cylinder.

He works for a splitter dealer...or a hydraulic shop?
Looks like the threaded end of the barrel snapped off where the threads start...if that's true a good full service hydraulic shop can make a new one for you (probably cheaper than ordering an OEM one...but you might wanna check that option too)

 

Yep, that's pretty broke. The barrel of the cylinder may be junk. Looks like she hit the end of the stroke one time too many. Bad metal is my guess assuming that the gland nut didn't just back out over time. I don't see any threads though.

 

He works for an equipment place that sells and services what they sell.

I don’t think I’d ever think I could have that cap made for cheaper than a production piece. If I could, I’d ask to beef it up on the OD. The threads are always going to be the stress riser.
