Imagine the engine as an air-pump ... more air/fuel in and out = more power ... if done correctly the saw will run COOLER than stock and last just as long ! It’s done to get more work done in a shorter time ... also if done correctly you are getting a saw with the cutting speed/power of the next class up or in some cases 2 classes up without the additional weight ... if you are cutting all day that makes a BIG difference ... done correctly you can expect between 20%~60% faster cutting depending on saw model and skills of porter ...

Thank you for that information I will assume a Stilh dealer is not the place to go for this Mod on my saw?

I agree with others. The 461 would be my recommendation. Mid range, not heavy, great power. If you get into big stuff, you will be happy. I cut a lot of trees in my greens with an 025. It did the job, but took 2-3 times longer. If you can hit a logging show this spring, you can save a hundred or two and get a solid saw.

I have a 461 that’s “under the knife” as we speak ... should be a ripper when done

461 460 046 all my favorite saw, so versatile. Hopefully that saw gets out of surgery soon and into some wood. Just finished cleaning mine up as we speak.

A whole lot of testosterone in this thread. It went from MS250 vs. MS271 to ported 046/460/461. Just sayin'.

Nothin wrong with a little testosterone. But yeah did sway a little off topic. IMHO there's not much of a difference between a ms250 vs ms271 to justify not buying a bigger saw than both. I was taught it's better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it. Just my 2 penny's worth.

Yeah that's what I was getting at, I'm not saying to buy a saw that you'll never use, but within your limits and of course budget. I went ahead and picked up a 261 after looking at exactly what the OP was looking to get because I just saw the potential for having a larger and lighter saw for use for just about anything.

While you're over there, you might find a great deal on a Wild Thang. They are local and all.

Yeah ! I have a 261c with a 16” bar that’s modded and I like it ! It’s just that I like my ported 241c with a 16” a tad more ... I “Wood” be willing to part with the 261c for the right price ... it’s sporting a 16” picco 3/8 sqr/sqr chain ; muffler ported ; modded combustion chamber and large felling dogs with chain catcher ... comes with 2 xtra chains to sweeten the deal ... also throw in the 16” 3/8 .050 bar chain and rim ... it’s in MINT condition with about 20 tanks of fuel run thru it ...

Now that's a deal I wouldn't have turned down if I hadn't purchased one myself. I am currently waiting for the 462 to be released in the U.S., so I'm trying to save all my cash as that thing will empty out my piggy bank. Im sure someone here will pick that up off ya.

Also just curious as to what makes the 241 a more favorite for you?

It’s lighter and faster ; it’s not just favored over the 261c ... I have several saws and the 241c in its present configuration is the go to in 14” smaller wood ... the 261c is not modded to the degree that the 241c but if it were and was a tad quicker I STIHL wood prefer the 241c !!!

I see that makes sense. The 241 is about 2lbs lighter? for only a little less than 1hp difference?, which in your case since it is ported, probably the same hp and 2 lbs lighter. I'm probably off on my specs For the saws. For your given wood sizes i probably would take the 241 as well. Besides the fact that thing is probably really fun to use.

I only use my 261 for the firewood I burn. I would love to port my 261, but it would defeat the purpose of saving fuel to heat the house. I do fire restoration and everything we cut for work is almost all bigger than 20". So that's where my bigger saws come in. All my saws are stock except for little muffler mods, and my poor man's port jobs of just cleaning the casting imperfections. Can't even really call it a port job, but I have seen improvements.

I feel as if we have hijacked this thread and my apologies to the OP, I am new here and don't know where to start or end.

I am right where what your talking about. I am using a ported 026 quite a bit, my 261 is in line to be ported now. I have a ported 461 that I am bucking with, not using the 441 as much, now that I have the 461.
