Great choices. I got my 261 two Summers ago, My 361 (precursor to the 362) this past Summer and my 460 (precursor to the 461 & 462) nearly three years ago. Might i suggest a top handle for your next saw? I have a 12" bar MS194 and its a handy little thing.

You will like the 462, I have ran a 28” on my 462 but I prefer a 25”. Currently I have a 20” on it with an 8pin sprocket. I prefer to run the 28” on my 661.

I have a stihl 131, extendable to 12 or 14 feet, i think. A Milwaukee 18v pole saw 12ft with the extension and a 34 and half ft manual pole saw. It uses 6 6ft concrete floats that snap together. You can really reach out and touch someone with it. That all being said, they will all wear you out in a hurry. The stihl is probably my go to, the chain speed is great compared to the Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is great for larger limbs as the slower chain speed tends to bounce it around. Not having to fiddle with starting the Milwaukee is pretty handy too. Once i start the Stihl i just let it run. All in all just pick what you want and be happy you can afford to buy one and have the property to need one.

I guess that 8 pin sprocket will really spin that 20" and you have the power to back it up.

So I called my 'local' Stihl dealer and was told they were only relegated four of the 500i's this year and those were all presold. He said at the earliest, they 'may' get more in next spring. I know the dealer so he is trying to source one for me. From all the feedback he has received from those who purchased them (all loggers/tree crews), they love the new saw and highly recommend it.

Thanks buZZsaw BRAD for letting me know about it (of course now I want one NOW).

Sounds like a plan but it wouldn't surprise me if you ended up with one of your own. We didn't even talk about prices because none were available.

I've got an Echo PPT-266 pole saw. On the first job it paid for half of itself.

Yep, I could see how it would pay for itself pretty quick with paying work.

a stihl pole saw was one of my first purchases after moving into my house, it was extremely handy in cleaning up my greatly neglected property. But, since doing that 4 or so years ago, it spends most of the time in the garage just sitting there. I've pondered selling it, but every once in a while I need it. So it's one of those tools you won't use a ton, but you'll be glad you have it when you do need it.

Finally heard back from the dealer a few days ago and as suspected, no 500i saws are available. According to the Stihl rep, they are due to be shipped 'early' next year, and since major tree cutting for me slows down once the heavy snow flies (unless there's a lot of tree damage), I'm ok with that. The dealer put me on the list for the first one they get in next year!
