Another guy is feeling old because I remember all of this. Still have a rotary phone in the kitchen, gave away my 8 tracks, still have cassettes around-the only option I added on my 1989 Toyota truck was a tape player-it was $9300-for a new vehicle!(the total cost, not the tape player!)
Although it has an electric starter, our Allis Chalmers G has a crank and I have used it. I also may be the youngest guy around that loaded logs on a trailer using planks and a peavey to roll them on the trailer.

I knew I recognized it, but could not place it in our vehicles, my father had an 89' (2wd). Same everything except his was brown. Nice truck, his was in really good condition, he asked me to help him sell it, got a great $ on ebay.
PS, the buyer bought for his grandson too!

For the thread. Remember the distinct smell?

Hum... When I was a young lad, we had 3 tractors. John Deere A, of course no starter and no crank. Just used the flywheel and opened the petcocks to start the beast. It also had a shifting pattern that most kids would really get their minds blowed. Another tractor was the John Deere H. The third one was an Allis Chalmers WD and this one had a crank for a starter. Does anyone remember magnetos? The family car was a model A. Maybe I'd best stop now...

I think im the only person in my area that will touch a mag! They are so simple but people are scared of them for some reason. Now buzz coils, i haven't had a chance to touch one of them yet.

A little later than Model As, but can remember the truck my dad had. Dodge in the early 50's era. Perhaps a '53 from the pictures and my memory. It had the starter pedal that someone else mentioned. My earliest memory of a family car is an early '60 Plymouth wagon. Perhaps '63 or '64.
My first new car was a 1972 Mustang about $3400. Now a days that wouldn't buy you a car that you can trust to drive across the road.
Come on. I know you have a lot more memories Backwoods Savage

How many of you have used one of these?

I remember as a teen mowing grandma's yard with one. Looking back it did mow real well until you hid a thumb size twig. The handle would shove into your gut.
"Grandma why don't you come into the modern age?"
My grandma was tight and still making her own soap when she passed in the early '70s.

My 19 yr old son has one is his tool box. It's not that it get's used so much as it reminds you of dad and grandpa (for both of us!).

Somewhere around here I have one with a drill bit in it.
Was a handy little tool to have in my kit to facilitate inserting #6 ss screws into very hard wood and formica covered plywood.
