Just wondering how many used to watch the Hootenanny on Saturday nights? I remember we watched that almost every week when it was on, 1963-1964. And of course before that came on there was the Wide World of Sports that had a long running. Two other programs we used to like was Laugh-in and Hee Haw during the 60's and early 70's. Also there was All in the Family but I didn't get to watch that much due to employment. Sad that was before you could tape it and watch it later. Today it is rare for us to watch tv and it is sad to go into a doctor's office or even the hospital and they have the stupid thing on all the time. Even worse is if you were hospitalized and your roommate liked tv and it seemed most were hard of hearing.
I remember the day that ski jumper fell like that. Was watching and it scared the BeJesus out of me. It turned out okay for the guy but I doubt he was jumping for several days or weeks.
Remember these? My grandpa was a big Radio Shack fan. He had to go there to get his free battery and whatever other gadgets he was interested in. I spent a lot of time with him putting together the various kits they had. Nowadays if you can even find a RadioShack (haven’t been in one in at least 5 years) all they want to do is sell you a cell phone.
I had one of those when I was a kid. You had to be quite close to the transmitter to get any reception and if I remember right, it was only AM.
I can still smell this in my mind, I thought it smelled great! Tried chewing it once, not so good ....
Do you remember the Christmas light strings where if one bulb blew out, the whole string went dead? Not sorry to see those go! Speaking of Christmas, I wonder how many have never enjoyed a real Christmas tree, leave alone going out to cut one themselves.
Remember both those things. Also remember mom was extremely happy to get our first artificial tree. No more cleaning up the dropped needles.
