Things Kids of Today Wouldn't Recognize

I guess the school couldn't afford the whole painting....

 

First fishing "pole" was a stick.....literally. Caught a Carp with it.

 

We called those "government poles". Yup, used 'em for awhile myself.

 

Going toe-to-toe with a carp on a stick and string would be a real blast. Those things can really pull.

I can't top that, but I did tussle with and lost, as well landed some pretty big large mouth bass on the old cane poles.

We used stick poles when fishing brushy creeks for brook trout which worked great for getting the worm into tight little pools, under logs and seams in the current.

 

Number one is a Cox engine. It is small 2 stoke internal combustion engine that powered small planes and vehicles.

I used many of these during my smoking years.....I'm so glad I broke the habit!

Got my grandmothers for World War II, an Army nurse.

 

We had the plastic cox planes and when we broke them we built the guillows models and put the cox engines in them. We must have built 15-20 guillows models we put cox .020, .049, and we put a medallion .09 in one! The poor mans TeeDee!

 

My 9 year old has had one of those for years! She still uses it.

 

Certainly something to be said for those times............................. life was a whole lot better in many ways !!!!!!!
