    Great thread rottiman

    I recognize nearly every item posted, and grew up with most all of it.

    I remember arcing a hole in Mom's barber shears when cutting an electric cord, sticking metal into outlets, putting fingers in light sockets.. guess I've always had a fasciation with getting zapped.
    :loco: :crazy::bug:
    :rofl: :lol:

    I miss Jarts :confused: they were a lot of fun, and me & my friends actually never hurt each other with them.
    :rofl: :lol:

    Regular darts on the other hand..
    :whistle:

    Never once in my life have I ever owned, or worn a bike helmet, could have used one on more than one occasion though.
    :rofl: :lol:

    With as many times as I hurt myself doing an "Evil Knievel" stunt, my parents would likely be arrested for "child abuse" these days.
    :picard:

    Nowadays kids need to be raised in special protective little cocoons to protect them both physically and emotionally. They are so fragile these days.
    :tears:o_O

    As others posted, it seems truly remarkable that our generations survived.
    :whistle::eek:
    :rofl: :lol:

    Same here.

    Have had my share of stitches, but a lot of "butterfly patches" were applied.

    Not all of the current crop of parents and kids are snow flakes. i was at the local gun range yesterday and I saw parents teaching their young son the fine art of shooting a 22. I guess there are still parents out there who believe it is their job to raise adults instead of children. That is a gooder thing.:thumbs:

    I recognize a lot of these items, and have used a good amount. Largely in credit to my grandparents being close by on the farm, we would spend the entire summer helping with crops and mowing lawn. I loved being raised on 4 farms, couple neighbors always needed help and grandparents loved having our help. Makes me sad that it's going to be a lot tougher not having that background readily and easily available to our 4 month old. I'm 29 now and seeing some of the pictures and stories shared takes me back even.

    Yes yes, I know, a bit of a smarta$$ sounding thing to say and a lot here have more than twice the life experience than I, but it's the truth, and it's neat to hear some of those stories.
    Great thread!

    Great thread..
    Only 47 but I remember most of these.

    Looking for pic of hand operated milk separator.. Separates milk from cream. In great uncles barn, he kept it after the farm closed because it took part of his finger!

    It was. Got my arm stuck in ours, but I have no idea how. Pretty sure it was a hand crank version.

    I remember some different prices.

    I've purchased gas for $.079 but normal when I started driving was around $.21 to $.24
    Soda pop was from .05 to .10 with a .02 return on the bottle.
    Cigarettes were around .20
    Milk around .35
    candy bars for .03
    Do not remember the price of sugar.

    Actually, there are cream separators rather than milk separators.

    We had one of these. I remember in the 50's when there was a milk strike and neighbors came to our place to separate the cream so they could sell it. The skim milk went to the hogs.

    Guess I'm the old fart on this forum. I remember all of the things pictured or listed. I also grew up in a very poor family. We had an outhouse until I was around 8 or 10. Used to have to go to the neighbor's to get water as we had no running water. Family car was a Model A. Big tractor was a John Deere A. Yes, we had wood heat and wood cook stove too. There were both good and bad times.

    Still have the scar on my leg from one of those. It should have been stitched, but I think a bandaid was used. I didn't die, but it did bleed quite a bit. Also didn't get a trophy. o_O
