Well. What have we here? Nestled amongst our very tall white pines and very stunted and gnarled mulberries are these, uh, ‘different pines’. I have a total of three - two are dead-standing and one is on its very last legs. Behold: IMG_1115.jpeg

So I got to thinking - those look pretty promising for fatwood. And what do you know? This is off the skinnier tree.

And this is a tiny cut, very low, off the bigger tree, which looks like it’ll have quite a yield: IMG_1117.jpeg

I went and picked up that cherry (and, yes, more cottonwood) from Mr. Cottonwood’s place today and brought him that big piece of fatwood above. We’ll share the wealth from these pines. From the looks of it, we’ll both basically have a lifetime supply. Just gotta do a little research on how best to fall a pine when one wants the fatwood; as I understand it, there’s lots in the roots, too.

Oh - I almost forgot. Mr. Cottonwood called it. The cherry is ready to go. I split a piece with the ol’ Fiskars and it read 17% on the MM. I can’t wait to get it split and try it in the burner.
