I have a magnetic stove top thermometer...where should I place that on a Fisher Baby Bear? I have it on the angle between the low and high surfaces.
So...My 'new' Baby Bear is doing a great job. I have the thermometer on the angle of the stepped top...what temperature range should I be looking for? Should I move the thermometer to another place on the stove?
If you have an IR gun, find the hottest spot, and place it there. On my NC-30, that angle is the hottest spot, but the Fisher is of course quite different.
They can be had for less than $20 from Amazon, eBay, or Harbor Freight. I use mine a few times a year, quite worth it.
Right there! I've had it there for nearly 35 years and that has seemed from trial and error to be the best temp area for the Fishers!
Thanks Dave...That is the info I was looking for. The Baby Bear is doing great! Been about 8f outside and the Fisher is keeping the inside in the mid 70s without me stoking the heck out of it. ....Can't believe there is a better stove out there than a Fisher!
Shack, I had to show you this when a Fisher is burning to it's full potential! This is what it should look like with stack temps and stove temps "with" a correct baffle! Best stove temps and cooler stack temps! This is telling you your getting the best burn for the buck! more heat in the stove and less going up the pipe! It took me "YEARS" to tweak this! The baffle is doing the work here so if you have better stove temps than pipe temps, your on the mark!!! It is 14º out now, 84º in the house and I'm getting 6hr burns on big Maple and Oak splits!
Good information...not sure I would have figured that out on my own. It is 4 f here outside...the Baby Bear has it 84 f inside...love it! I am getting a 5 to 6 hour burn time on black cherry and Ash today. Missed out on a MaMa with an arched door, it went for $175, pictures looked good too...dang it.
They're out there. Just keep looking if that's what you want. Your Baby bear will surprise you. Yes you would have, it's just a time trial thing... I've been feeding Fishers since 1975, I swear everyone of them has a soul, well, maybe not but you can really tune in on them.
Already has exceeded my expectations! I love Bob's story...he unknowingly added to my independence. ...I still want a arched door Mama Bear and a Bicentennial!!!
The Bicentennials are getting pretty tough to find these days obviously because they were made one year. "Most" people don't know that and don't realize they are very collectable per-say. I have 2, I was lucky that I found one a while back, here about 5 miles from my home. The other I drove to Phila to get, about 100 miles. I got my last one for $300.00 so that's where you should be looking price wise. Some people will give you the Bu11$#!T story and want $500 or $600 for them, "don't bite"! Give them an offer, leave them your number, They'll call you back! There's not a mad rush on Fisher stove collectors "yet"...
Well, if you want to take a drive and have $400, this could be your's! I'll break even on this one between the purchase price, gas and the new fire brick I have for it! She needs a good cleaning up but it's in fine shape. I don't usually offer and I don't usually sell them but I'm going to thin the herd and as long as I know it's going to be used/cared for, I'll sell it! I'm in no hurry. If you want to map it out I'm in a town called Cape May, the very southern bottom of NJ.
Ok, well not in any hurry, it's here and I know it may be a "haul" for you. I don't know how far you are but I have a friend who lives near West point, and it's 3 hours for him to here on a good day with little traffic.
