The wife finished house cleanin today n she asked if she could anything outside....so i sent her for a walk n this was her job.... last year we had white oak flooring scraps left over from the previous year...goin cheap this year....
Cheap is good. Wish i could get Ms. buZZsaw to do that! We are surrounded by woods and it makes great kindling.
We'll use two or three thirty-ish gallon garbage barrels or more full of well seasoned pine branches for kindling every year. Just have to go out and collect them. Simplifies the morning restart in a small stove every morning. A handful on hot coals make for a speedy get go. A handful of twigs/branches, some pine splits, close the door, open the air all the way and poof ! ignition. Knock the air back after a minute or two and go drink coffee while the stove heats back up PDQ. Have never had help with the pine branches. I have had help with a few soft, rotten, moss and lichen covered branches right outside the door that have fallen out of the mature oak tree. They're really not very good for firestarting material but It's the effort that counts, right ?
My dumbass usually grabs splits not sticks. I need to get my kindling ready. I only need it for shoulder season, so I don't need a ton. Just need to get it cut to length and split up. I've been procrastinating because I've been using birch bark so far.
I use the same thing for kindling. Sticks are everywhere. Just need to collect them a day get them off the ground to dry.
