If I we're him, I'd take the dog into the Vet, hand him the dog and say Good bye, don't look back! It's the easiest way to this situation, (my opinion).

While I’ve had to put animals down personally it’s absolutely not something that is easy for me to do even when the situation was necessary. I believe in your brothers situation I would tend to agree with WeldrDave. It would also spare the family any trauma from witnessing the event. Really feel for all of you in this, especially your nephew. Prayers that he heals up fine and no permanent scars visually or psychologically.

First, happy belated birthday, Im glad there was a little something enjoyable that day.
I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew, that is tragic and could have been much worse. I sure hope he can get any help he needs after that experience. Kids are tough, but can be traumatized. And I'm glad your brother listened now.
Thanks for sharing with us, we can't lift up needs, if we don't know of them.
May JESUS give HIS HEALING TOUCH to all affected.

My brother brought his family over for a few hours. My nephew is healing nicely and his face looks great. It’s hard to tell what happened. He was a little shocked when Meeko ran out the door to greet him, but he warmed up to him real quick and they got along great. He told me that his dog had grabbed him by the face and shook him like one of his toys. My wife saw the pictures of when it happened and said it looked real bad. Absolutely night and day from then to now. He seems to be pretty good mentally. Not a lot of trauma.

He is a sweet kid, and we love having him over.

As a follow up to my post above, they decided to put the wives, aggressive dog down, which surprises me as she defended it's actions all the time.
As I later found out, their one year old was almost was a victim of the melee but was snatched from harms way just in time of would have been seriously injured.
I'm sure that was the major reason for the decision to put it down. Tough decision for them but better than what might happen in the future.
