Ms. buZZsaw and grand daughter walked into the kitchen last night to discover the volleyball sized watermelon on the counter relieving itself with enough force to get on the floor. A skinny stream of water emulating from it. In a panic they call me. We placed it on the back steps outside and after I gave it a gentle squeeze, it vomits some of its innards. It fermented and went bad.

I thought I picked out a good one from the big cardboard box at the store Wednesday night. Sounded okay when I tapped it. Guess not!:emb:
Be sure your watermelon is house broken before you bring it home!

(I had Ms. buZZsaw email a pic of it to me but file too big to upload)

Back in the day we used to enjoy a good fermented watermelon on the 4th (the kind with a couple half pints sticking out of it from the night before) but a naturally fermented one sounds rather putrid.

Sounds more like rotted than nicely fermented.

I just moved it from the steps and had a hard time picking it up without breaking the flesh. Tossed it into the yard and exploded like a water balloon.

First I've ever heard of that happening. Sounds more like botulism.
