I am a simple man 50:1 because that's what the manual said. Didn't realize that you could change it up.

 

I run 50:1, mostly because it's easy to drop one of those bottles into a gallon. I've been tempted to switch it up to 40:1, but I haven't seen hard evidence that it'll have any affect on the life of a firewood saw.

 

Use to be a 50:1 guy and never had a motor problem in 20 years ! BUT..........You guys got into my brain...now 40:1 makes me sleep better at night !!! At least now I get to use my old old Ratio Rite cup from my old snowmobile hobby/problem I use to have

 

Besides.......how seriously boring would it be if your saw lasted forever ? Its not only bad for the economy...but extremely BBBOOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGG LOL

 

32:1 and sometimes a little more or less depending on how much attention I'm paying when I get close to the mark. I usually mix 2.5 gallons at a time.

 

I'll admit, I'm mot a gear head at all, when it comes to the internal combustion engine as long as it runs and sounds healthy, I'm happy..... thinking of doing anything but what the book says.... that just blew my mind

Full synthetic at 50:1 with non ethanol gas here.
Imput from the Japanese gooroos that spec the new outboard motors we sell : "Ethanol breaks down standard mix oils, the use of modern full synthetic oils protects up to 33% better in ethanol mix applications. If non ethanol fuel was the standard mixed with full synthetic oils 100:1 would be the standard across the board with all stock 2 stroke motors under normal use.
I feel my mix application is good for my stock saws, however if I had a MM saw or used ethanol fuel I would use 40:1

 

Some mixes like klotz kl200 will mix with gas, alcohol, ethanol, and methanol. You never really know what you're getting when you buy pump gas with ethanol.

 

Ive heard it can be anwhere up to 20% ethanol instead of the 10% like they tell us.I don't know if that is correct but it sounds crazy.No E in my tools not when I have a choice.
32:1 kinda guy myself been runnin with the Maxima K2(easter based) and really like it.Regular synthetic run 40:1 want to try it like Dexterday does 36:1 see how that is.

 

I've used the K2 a bit myself. I have some Motul 800 also. I've used the techniplate and R50 klotz.

 

Vintage Homelite oil at 16 to 1 is where its at. Or...you can trust about every sawmaker on earth with the 50 to 1 spec. If water white kerosene is good enough as the only lube for Elb surface grinder bearings & straight gas was good enough for early Porsche mechanical gas injection, then 50 to 1 is fine for me.

 

Whats your preference out of them all ?

 

I have been running 32:1 and am thinking of going 40:1 ............ some days with the kids minibikes running where I am cutting, its just brutal !

 

R50 is the best I think as far as lube. It doesn't mix with alcohol though. Motul can be used in the coldest weather. If Motul wasn't so expensive compared to Klotz that would probably be my pick. K2 is fine oil also. Original techniplate is probably the best for people running pump gas with ethanol. It will mix with any of it.

 

Say price was not a consideration, what oil would you run with non ethanol gas, and what ratio would you use ?

 

For winter Motul 800 and warmer months R50. All of it at 32:1.

 

I mix 32:1. Even when I ran semi syn husky oil I always mixed 40:1 even in my out boards. I dont care what the manual says. More oil is better to a point. Watch your plug and piston top if your not fouling you dont have too much oil or no problem.. I did run 2 gallons of 50:1 to see a difference. Noticed no power difference or difference in smoke really.

I went to 32:1 after seeing masterminds thread and honestly there way more knowlegable guys than me running their saws in that neighborhood, and they know what there talking about.
