"Run it until something's flung from it" is more like it. LOL

I would volunteer ar my cousin's farm in summer to help with hay season. I recall the itchiness. The only itchier I've been was when I had to grind out and sand fiberglass from the inside of my Ski Nautique while restoring it

I never thought the itch was so bad with hay but oat straw was always the worst.

Never did oats but always being of the large and easily overheated type I looked like I was battered for deep frying.

Oat straw was the worst imo. Put up about 1500 bales every year for two different farms & man did we dread those two days. Wheat straw & hay weren't so bad.

That was how my brothers & I made money in the summers. We had a pretty regular schedule of 8 different farms through the summer. Made decent money too because we showed up & worked. Led to good jobs during the school year too.

You can't buy it...its inherited from your dad generally...and only handed down after he has given you a can or two (case?) of "whoopazz" :startled:

My grandfather was a volunteer FF, probably back in the 1950's. The town had a horn at noon. It was still used through the 1970's to call FF's to the station for a call.

He showed us a map and legend that the town used that listed a series of horn blasts that corresponded to streets or intersections in town. The blasts were repeated a few times. Some volunteers went to the station to man the trucks, some went direct to the scene. Pretty cool history.

My home town still has their siren and use. If memory serves me right, 8:00am, noon and I want to say 6:00pm and still use it.
