Yup ... lotta “old school” ways of doin things ... sometimes the tried and true trumps today’s “technology” by a long shot ... you can make a damm - near perfect chain with the logosol (for sqr/round) and a silvey (for sqr/sqr) and that raker machine is the icing on the cake !

Ive got a Stihl .325 one and a Pferd 3/8 one...personally I absolutely love them. I never had great luck with hand filing and tried using a dremel for a while...it all worked but I wasnt consistent enough by hand. This tool makes it real easy to keep the file consistent and also hits the rakers at the same time which I love.

My chains stay plenty sharp for me with these tools.

I just checked on the AUS Stihl website and they do list one for the 404. I hope that the local Stihl shop has them in stock because I have grown quite fond of my 3/8 one.

I have a Timberline with all the different size bits as well, It does a pretty good job, BUT, only on certain chains I'm finding. A lot of my chains do not work properly on it, and I'm not sure why. And, NONE of my chains work on the timberline in both directions. Meaning, your supposed to be able to file one side, then switch the hold the bit is in and file the next cutter in the other direction. But mine never line up, I can only do one side at a time. In fact, some of mine have to be readjusted on each tooth. It's like the teeth are at different spaces apart??

So, is there a difference between the Pfred one and Stihl one? Or are they the same and I should buy the cheapest one?

And which one do I need to the CS400 with LP on it?

i tried it on one chain but it is too slow for me i prefer the stihl 2n1 or the pferd 2n1 when round filing i can do a 20 inch chain in less than 5 minutes
they look the same to me pferd has a different size file setup for the 3/8 than what stihl has for their chain and why i have both of them

Stihl dealer had them for 40.00 i bought a 3/8 works ok
But much like the forester all in one they are to bulky and cumbersome for me maybe it's because i'm left handed lol.
I always unlock the foresters file holder trying to use it.
And let my friends have them
I always free hand file anyway.
But i'm brought badly rocked or sharpened chains all the time
I use the husky roller guide to get the angle back
Then i hand file after that.
14.08 from Forester for the all in one
The Stihl/pferd work just not for me lol forester-all-in-one-chainsaw-file-guide-9.jpg

I just got a Pferd sharpener and tried it on a dull chain.
Using it is easy, and the angled ends let you know right away if you are keeping the angle correct.
I might not have gotten my timberline sharpener if I had these first.
The timberline sharpener is good for bringing a chain back from being rocked, the Pferd is good for regular touch ups.

The burrs for timberline can be brittle and chip if you try forcing it

Timberline = very sharp. Razor sharp. Also kinda slow to me too. About ten minutes start to finish.
