    I remember back in the early 90s spending a lot of time at my great grandmother's house. She was originally from the plains states, in an area hit hard by the great depression and the dust bowl of that same era. Even as an old woman she'd save or salvage anything she could. Food, housewares, implements of all types, etc. I'd like to think some of that rubbed off on me.

    Kinda the same here. My grandmother was raising five kids as a widow through the depression. My mom lived through it too. Both were rather thrifty, but mom was the hoarder though. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

    X2 my grandma too.
    Washed plastic bags to reuse...tinfoil too...burned out light bulbs to paint up/make Christmas decorations with...etc.
    As a kid she said they maybe got an orange for Christmas.

    I don't really know, but I do know I appreciate everything those folks did back then to make my life easier today!!
