    green teams burn pretty good,glass is still clean......stove chows are way hotter.

    I burned Greene Team in my first year burning, then I was schooled about softwood. They still are a good pellet but years ago Lowes decided to start charging more for them than the others and that really cut down their popularity for me. They were not worth the difference.

    I am into my 3rd batch of chows this season. Ash levels have varied from batch to batch, but so far they are all consistently HOT. I really like them.

    Made my bi-weekly trip to Walmart to pick up 5 more bags of MWP. Price is still $4.38/$219. Stopped by HD as well. They haven't budged on their prices. Chow, FSU and Nations Choice still $5.98/$259, Inferno Gold $299. I didn't notice the bag price on the Inferno's. They had probably 200-300 tons in inventory, mostly all Chows which I find interesting because I've never seen them in this area before this year.

    If they dropped to the 240 range, those Inferno Gold would be my choice, although I havnt burned Chow so no reference there.

    Keep scooping up on the MWP at that price

    Chows [made by Energex] are very good heat.. burned 2 tons during the polar vortex past season..
    also a mountain of ash comes with them..

    more ash aint no biggie for me,looks like ill be cleanin the ash every couple days during cold weather no matter what i burn,so not a big deal them things burn hot! on low

    Well, since you have the same large ash pan I do-good heat and a lot of ash isnt a huge problem if the price is right :yes:

    My view exactly in the past.. But,
    I was home for past 2 heating seasons, [early boomer retiree] so being around the stove all day it was easy to pull ash down few times a day, scrape the burn pot etc.. the usual OCD stuff that doesn't hurt...
    I now deliver auto parts 30 some hours/week so I'm not home to baby the stove like I did.. that said,
    I'm using better grade of pellets with low ash to keep from creating big Ash dams....
    even though I have a Harman free standing, I have at times seen my flames in the overnite/ morning being smothered a bit because of lot's ash even though fresh pellets in an auger system are supposed to Push the ash off into the burnpot. Basically, that;s how it works but very ashy pellets in my case kinda overwhelmed the burnpot somewhat.
    for me using low ash pellets assure me of not possibly having a flame get snuffed...
    not saying don't get chows or high ash pellets, this is just my take on it for my stove.

    I agree completely with using better pellets because my time is worth it. Especially when the oops, almost typed the "s" word, flies and I am beat from working all day and then spending hours cleaning the chit up after getting home.

    With an ashy pellet, I have only had issues when burning low and even then if the stove kicks into high gear, it should clear out the ash. I am in the habit of opening the door , clearing built up ash if there is any and a quick scrape of the pot once or twice a day when burning low- takes 10 seconds. Hardwood ash is more of a issue than softwood.

    yes.. it is that low burning that builds up the ash and yes with softwoods it is less of an Issue..[plan to use All Softwoods next season..]
    as I said, not home all day now to do the open/clear/scrape - rinse/lather/repeat few x's a day.:headbang:

    Morning and night should do it for an ashy hardwood, especially with a bottom feeder like yours. Even then it shouldnt be a real problem. Are you not getting the heat when you have the ash dam?

    To avoid confusion, not getting the ash dams since I switched to less ashy pellets [was sometimes in the morning after running all night.] and heat was affected somewhat.
    a good pull down of the ash would surfice as u mentioned, flame would come back to life and it was from running a lower temp overnite.
    running a lower temp during the day now when I am gone but it's not really a concern anymore..
    along with Stove chows I was burning Eneregx hardwoods also. very hot/ashy..
    I now am using the Energex Golden low ash pellets..big difference..

    stopped by the local HD today... they had ThermaGlo...probably 30 ton but it was out in the rain with the tops of some pallets ripped open. Probably from the forklift operators setting one skid on another. at any rate, 6 or 8 skids were bleeding sawdust from the rain. what a way to sell pellets, when you could set them undercover 20 feet away!:loco: :crazy::loco: :crazy:o_O

    Some poor guy is gonna buy them unless the damage is pretty obvious to all....
    once the pellets go back to Mama sawdust there's no goin back..

    I scrape mine when I get up in the morning, when I get home from work, around 8:00 PM and before I go to bed and I don't seem to have any issues. I've burned nothing but MWP so far this year and they're a little ashy. . I know what you mean about choking the flame although to me it looks more like reducing the air flow, but my routine seems to work pretty well for me.

    It was like that earlier in the year at the Walmart where I've been buying pellets. They would have a half dozen or so pallets open at one time with ripped bags everywhere, all stored outside, and when they needed pellets inside, they would take one of the saturated pallets in. The last couple of times I've been there things have looked a lot better, both outside and inside.

    Stopped by TSC in Coventry today. Like everywhere else, they were completely inundated with pellets. 95% of them appeared to be MWPs in both old and new bags. The rest were Pure Fires and a few tons of Ligs leftover from last season. It is funny to see these places with so much product on hand.
