Ive had 27 saws ported by Randy. There is no end for me in sight. No I dont use them every day. No I will never wear one of them out. Who cares? Folks feel it's a waste, but if I have the money and want to spend it that way.... that is my business.
I can't for the life of me, understand why someone would waste their money on cigarettes or alcohol? Hell, at a pack a day... a person could have 6 saws ported in a year. Id rather spend my "play" money on saws, then on something that is going to shorten my life. But to each their own.

had an Aunt die at age 47 of "liver poisoning" (drank every day). All of my Uncle's on my Mom's side are "functioning alcoholics" that drink daily. My deceased FIL drank, my BIL drinks alot. I chose years ago, that there would be no alcohol allowed in my home bc Kari used to have to get between her Mom and Dad when he drank, (My MIL doesnt), and bc of the inherited propensity in my family to drink. As far as smoking goes, not going to pay and give something the "power to kill" me. You pay financially and w/ your life in the long run. Your "remaining" family really pays the ultimate price however in "their loss of you."

We have done lots of comparisons between the same model, stock VS ported.

I do have one odd compro for you though. I did a Echo 600P for a man in Texas, another guy that ports saws did a MS461 for the same man. The Echo 600P (60cc) I did for him will handily spank the MS461 (77cc).

I really had to rack my brain on who I could remember that has a Mastermind 600P (I mean I really thought hard for 5 min). And then I remembered him posting a video of it a long time ago. (photographic memory). Happened to actually be someone I was currently engaged in conversation with, by chance. Got the back story..... very interesting indeed. I'll take it to my grave.

Ported saw are not for everyone. Just like drag cars, fast boats, and stunt planes aren't. The older saws do not respond to the mods I do quite as well...they aren't plugged up by the EPA as much. The M-T Stihls, and A- T Husqvarnas are the saws I do the most of.

A 40% gain in cut speed is probably not being realistic. That became a "buzzword" when we were all giving Brad a hard time a few years ago. 30 - 35% is pretty common though.

I've tried really hard to find a balance between durability, and performance. I've kept very good notes, and would like to think the saws I'm building are better now than ever. I've ported well over 700 saws since I've been doing this, and have had only a handful of failures. The ones that I know about are always fixed on my dime too.

At any rate......I see some guys saying things that make it seem like having a saw ported is not worth the expense. Those guys are 50% right. Half the people that run a ported saw probably ain't gonna be excited by it. Those guys need to keep their money and run their stock saws. The other half are gonna be tickled chitless, and have more saws done.

I do a bunch of saws for people that use them to make money with.......those guys will rarely post about their saws......to them they are just another tool. Those guys send saws three at a time normally. They tell me that their guys don't want to run a stock saw after using a ported saw......

I have more repeat users than I have single customers, and I'm booked up till mid August. That says more for my work than I ever can.

Ported saws are not for this Randy, I guess I'm just too mellow in my old age. I'm glad your business is doing well though.
