I have a gas kitchen stove, gas hot water heater, and gas dryer and my monthly bill is around 25-30 bucks........I don't mind that bill at all. However, I'm going to make water jackets for the 1900p in the kitchen to supplement my hot water heater, I'll first need to find a junk hot water tank and insulate it for the storage of the water. Three kids and a wife that ALL love long, hot showers.....that takes a toll on the hot water! By the time I get a shower in the evening, it's usually COLD!!
I can relate as 3 kids here also. Washer Dryer and Showers are constantly going on all the time. I have an electric 50 gallon water heater with the electronic control module with a energy save mode. I set the temp to 120 deg f. Electric bill runs around 190 bucks during the winter while using 100% wood heat.
Keeps it simple and the gas is pretty cheap there and you will burn gas year round so it makes sense..
I have electric hot water and LP cooking range, but once my tank is empty (35% of a 500 gal tank left) I will be purchasing a Electric range and be 100% free from the LP man.
For me it's a family thing. My wife packs a picnic lunch and we head out to the bush with my two Sons and try to have fun while we're out there. Usually all I do is drop the trees and buck them up, the wife and boys pack all the rounds into the truck and clear the branches out of the way. We get about one cord per trip and make the out and return trip in about 5-6 hours, but the actual work time is only about 3-4 hours, the rest is driving time and goofing around time. We do this no more than 5 times a year and I don't have to pay an electric or gas bill to heat our house. What's not to like? Here's what a typical day out cutting wood with us looks like.
Here it is cheaper to run a propane stove & water heater than electric ones. It will also recycle the hot water twice as fast. When the power goes out we have a 5K generator which meets our needs & still have hot water & are able cook/bake. Of course we have the wood stove for heat. We currently have a on demand LP H/W heater located in the bathroom which has definitely saved us on propane. While it works ok for the bathroom/laundry, by the time the water gets to the kitchen, it is not hot enough for my wife. When we build this next year, we will be going back to a tank LP H/W heater.
Dex I am seriously considering a pellet add on furnace if I can land one on Craigslist under $1000! If we did that and an electric water heater BAM! No more has at all. What a happy day that will be!
My dealer has 2 of the same units I have. One demo floor model for $2k or a new unit for $3k (well under what they were new). There are 3 members here that all run the Fahrenheit. Awesome stoves. Love mine. When I get home today. Wood stove will be cold and the house will still be 73°
Is that your own video? What was that music playing? Are you MuckyWaters? Can I put your videos on FirewoodHoardersTV? Can I use clips of your videos in other videos that I am editing for FirewoodHoardersTV? =D
Yes MuckyWaters is my youtube channel. I'm not sure what FirewoodHoardersTV is Jack, but it sounds like a good thing. You are welcome to use any of my videos you think you might find useful. Edit: BTW the music is a song by Chilliwack, a band that started not far from where I live.
Jack I am rolling here laughing, the questions after questions reminds me of my little girl. Man I love that kid and how excited she gets about things. Great to see the passion you have for the FHC TV.
I'm like a kid at the confectioners! The first post here will tell you all you need to know. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/firewood-hoarders-tv.1205/
