Last weekends splitting of the muddy trip to the farm (Small Haul-Big Work thread) has the rail rack full, finally and I will top cover once I find or purchase some more metal roofing.
Ahhhh man! That looks great Ashwatcher I bet you feel a sense of accomplishment after toiling in that mud last wkend. Really awesome stacks, sir!
Thanks gentlemen. capetownkg I should make it through the season with near 7 cord, so I am currently 2yrs ahead and will be shooting for 4 as soon as it dries up. I burned practically zero oak this year and although good to go, I will have 2yo primo ready to go by fall. I burned beech during the cold snaps and mostly ash, maple and cherry the rest of the way. I have 5 cord of red and white oak along with locust ready to burn in fall. I burn 3 cord (+-) per year.
Hey Ashwatcher, that is a beautiful place you got there. I'm a southern WV boy. Princeton. What area you in? God Bless
I'd love to do my entire back fence like that, unfortunately I've got a few fruit trees and grape vines along the fence. Boooo
Thank you WV Mountaineer. I am just south of Charleston, I reside in Lincoln Co.-A #2 seed is looking more and more possible in the dance. Impressive win at Baylor yesterday?
I agree with you Ashwatcher. It'd be nice to see our football program get straightened out too. God Bless
That's too funny because I do need to feel the ends up. The calculator says I have .93 cord up. I'll split the middle with a T-post at each end and stack it even and that should make for a full cord. I'll get right on that LinkedXJ and for whatever has you infirmed, hope you are getting better quickly...So you can get to work!
Man, that's a beautiful stack Sir! My question is, how do you get hold of rail like that? And moving it has got to be a chore, as it's so heavy, no?
Awesome job gettin them stacks up, :stacke:Gettin ahead on the Man you come long way for sure, since you joined here.
First of all, Lone_Gun welcome to the hood. You are going to like it here, I guarantee it. The rails were left over on the most recently acquired portion of my property when railroad tracks were removed. They are 33-34' long and yes very heavy. I have several more and would like to build more racks. Put them in place with a Kubota, chain and bucket. The concrete pipe wraps I placed these on were my only ones. I plan to place the next set up on used railroad ties so that I may go 2 deep with good spacing. Once in place, they will not be moved. I believe ample air from underneath is critical in the drying process. That's why I designed my woodshed with expanded metal flooring and I am experiencing drying times of near half the recommended times in addition to other factors. Stay safe everyone.
Thanks Ashwatcher! I am always on the lookout for good ideas on storing and seasoning firewood. This past year with the trees damaged from wind storms, pulling in a lot of green trees, when I'm used to cutting standing dead. Also working on my 3 year plan finally. Keep up the great work!
