The Fiskars X27 is a pretty quiet splitter...;)
Just a light thwack/pop every few seconds...and maybe the occasional grunt...or some other random sounds that oats and/or bean fueled "engines" tend to make. :emb:

Simple, crude, with a whole lotta "tolerance" built in....

The OHV engines were pretty good but the L-heads were indeed loud.

The low-end market has been pretty much conceded to the Aisian manufacturers. Nobody wants to buy parts or support a $100-$200 engine that gets the job done right out of the box.

Yeah, Briggs pricing is ridiculous compared to LCT or predator. I nearly took a job as a Buyer at Briggs. They are a customer my where I work.

If my buddy didn't have this 8 HP Tecumseh just sitting around, it was going to be chonda time for the old didier.

Briggs' newer motors are very quiet though. The one on my 3 yr old Ariens snowblower is super quiet. It was a small up charge to go with the Briggs motor over the LCT at the time. So I kept the $ local. Ariens are from brillion, Wi, and the Briggs from Milwaukee.

I respect keeping the money circulating as locally as possible. :salute:

For a lot of people who split close to home ditching the engine altogether is a viable option that should be considered. A electric motor is a deceptively cheaper alternative. A 2 pole motor will drive a stock pump well enough, double the pump gpm and go with a 4 pole and it'll be quieter yet.
